I have designed a website to exact client specifications and I hate it. You won't find it on my website, it does not reflect on my ability at all (well only that I can produce crap too!). However, client LOVES it. I tried VERY hard to show them alternatives which were along the same lines as they wanted but better IMO and they just pooh poohed them.

I feel like I have sold my soul for a quick buck..

Should I cringe and bare it? or never do a site that is so against my better judgement again? Anyone else ever been in this position?

Bleurgh.

Dont take it too personally hun, some people just want what they want and dont see how others see it. Tunnel Vision !!

I would definately cringe and bear it !! If you have tried to show them different options but they LOVE the one you have done - then you've done your job properly and met their specifications and needs.

Are they being too nice ? Just saying they like it because they don't want to offend you ?

Daffs, I hated nearly everything I did when I worked for a design company. All their clients wanted really cheesy flash animations and websites with vile colors. They all thought as long as it stands out, it's good design. Our design team tried our best to convince the account managers that they and the clients had it all wrong when it came to the design. But, as long as the client is happy and willing to pay, then there was nothing we could do.

Now that I'm on my own, I try to take on projects I think I'm going to enjoy too. However, this is not always the case (as you know!!) I think we just have to consider ourselves business women as well as creative designers and go with what the client wants. You tried your best to offer better designs, but it's up to them in the end. Cheer up, you've done loads of great designs that are gorgeous!

I just did a site for a goth store. It was interesting but not my cup of tea design-wise. The client loves it, which makes it bearable. Hope this helps.:happy72:

Hi Hun,

I think you might have to just grin and bear it - for the moment anyway. :-( I know I've done some sites that I just have not been happy with at all. It's a hard line to follow - but if the client is thrilled with it - then that's a good thing.

I think the others are all right here - you have to grimace and bear it! Pleasing the customer is always the aim in business and sometimes we have to accept that whilst *we* might not be happy about it - they are.

I know where you are coming from Alison

I did one of these a couple of years ago - I really hated it but the client got exactly what they wanted! Had I have known what they wanted before agreeing to do the work I may have given a longer start date than I did to put them off LOL!

I didnt put my web link on that site I have to say :S
