Cats and sofas

Have any cat owners got leather sofas? If so how easily do they get damaged???

Im looking to change mine as the fabric sofa I have at the moment has been made rank by my moulting dribbling cats.

Im hoping a leather sofa will deter them from sleeping on there, and will be easy to keep clean if they do, but Im worried about claws !!!

actually ive just ordered a leather sofa and have a cat she wont be allowed near it as when im not around the living room door will stay shut so she cant get in :happy72:

with 32 cats I am not suprized, you can teach the cat to not claw or go on the sofa using a water spray whenever she/he goes near it they will soon learn to keep away

They are pretty good with the furniture and use the scratching post, but they do tend to stretch against the suite now and again

my cat is rarely in anyway so im quite lucky there and when she is in shes usually under the bed lol :D

So have we you mad woman! We gave our old leather suite to SIL, there was nothing wrong with it we just wanted a change, and her cat has scratched it to bits but its not surprising as he is kept in all day long whilst they are out at work and only allowed out on a lead. You can buy repellant spray but not sure how it would effect the leather.

I would love to get a leather sofa but i have 2 house cats. (i cant bring myself to let them out as my previous cats, one of them was run over and the other two were poisoned by some sicko trying to get rid of stray cats in the area, the stray cats have all vanished too) i am sure they would wreck it. i clip my cats' claws to minimize damage from scratching and place scratching posts in front of their favourite bits to scratch. for some reason my tom is worst for scratching and he doesnt care about being told off either!

i've got a leather settee and 1 cat i made the big mastake when i first got the settee when the cat jumped on i pushed it off well she dug her clews in now i have a lovely strach right in the middle off sofa but when she gets on now i just say off and she jumps off and dos'nt mark it
but i do shut her in kitchen when im out she's got a cat bed in there and a cat flap if she want to go out:luck:

I bought my leather sofa's before i got my kitten big mistake its had it simply because it is a lovely scratch post for them Trouble was i never was home to stop her during the day when at work it is very hard to get them out of it once they start

You could keep a blanket/throw on part of it for the cat for when you are in the room... but I know cats ... they won't use that bit, will they?

I got a kitten in november and was worried she's not touched it can't say same for dinning room chairs tho but there not leather so cheaper to replace

Too right they wont use it LOL Theyve had cat beds which theyve used on and off. A bean bag -the same, they currently sleep on the back cushions of the armchairs GGRRRR

we have a leather settee and our cats were taught with the use of water spray not to go on it,the little un ollie still tries his look but when he sees me he scarpers:happy72:

There is a spray u can buy but it would be to expensive to keep it up.
I never new about a water spray or i could have tryed it never mind a.

I have a leather suite and 2 cats (not 32!):hysterica and it is in shreds. :smiley-fa Went looking for a new one recently but not convinced they will give it peace. We use a water pistol but we are not always there, so we are fighting a losing battle. Got a throw on it at mo, but dunno how long it will look nice for!

well i have just got a leather sofa about a week ago and my cat hasnt even attempted to sit on it and if she does then i just get her off same as the dog and at night i shut the living room and dining room doors so neither can get in there

Yes thats what i do my cat is in my kitchen for the night she has has 4 kittens in march so I don't give them the chance to make mine anyworse
