Hello All,

I am kinda back as a work at home mum, although this time I wont be earning from it I am just doing it for my love of guinea pigs!

I have set up a guinea pig non profit rescue http://bramleycaviesrescue.webs.com and are trying to find solutions on how to raise money to expand. We are inundated by people wanting us take their guinea pigs and we just dont have the space at the moment- so we need a bigger shed, it fully boarded out and insulated and electrics adding in.

So we are attending some very large events and large pet shops to fundraise.
For example we are going to the Harewood House Alice in Wonderland Easter event which alone will see around 40,000 visitors.
We are trying to get sponsorship from companies both animal and I feel childrens businesses would be suitable as alot of events we will be attending will be children orientated. We will be offering advertising on the back of our leaflets and on the website in return. Also we are trying to get products for tombolas and raffle prizes also some products such as keyrings, magnets etc with the rescues details on.

Has anyone any idea how we should go about this? i am unsure how the best way forward is. Is it to write pen and paper, email or telephone? Can anyone advise. Has anyone sponsored a charity and what was what helped your decision?

Many thanks for any advice or help. We are desperate to help more piggies. We have already helped 22 in the 3 weeks I have been running it and I have 15 waiting to come into the rescue when we have free space.

Apart from the norm raffle, Bottle stall, Bran tub, Could you do a guess the name thing & have a cuddly guinea pig as the prize maybe..Maybe print up a little book on guinea pigs, Facts & tip's on keeping them sort of beginers guide to owning them..

I dont have any great ideas, but I do know someone who has a website selling items for cavies and other small animals, I'll let her know of your funding efforts, she may have some ideas or want to advertise with you.

Hi Helen,

Those items I told you about will be coming your way very soon - will try and get them off today :happy72:.

Will you be rehoming the guineas? Have you thought about having people sponsor them? Might be a nice little present idea for younger kids - to have their "own" guinea pig - you could send photos and email updates once a month maybe?

Also, depending on how much time and money you have, have you thought about setting up an online shop selling supplies? Tie it in also with a forum maybe..?

Thanks Dawn :happy72:

We will be rehoming the majority of piggies, but will have some which arent suitable for rehoming. So sponsorship is a good idea, I will look at that thanks.

I have thought about a foum but it scares me that no-one will ever post on it and i would get frustrated if it wasnt a success lol!!
I am looking into an online pet store. I must be mad lol!! I already have 35 g pigs of my own and my mums (they live at mums house) I have now set up the rescue we have 22 g pigs at the moment (thats at my house) We will be attending lots of fairs and im thinking of opening an online store.

Thank you

Not sure if piggie poo is big enough, but for a bit of fun at the events, could you have a special run, with the floor marked out in grids, each square numbered and 'sell' each square for £1, when all squares sold pop a couple of piggies in and give £5 to the winner of the square to gain the first poo? Have seen this with sheep in a large pen, the kids loved it all watching for a poo, drew a big crowd!
