I've posted this over on the Parenting Chat as well as it sort of belongs there, maybe even on health, but this is where I consider home to be on Mumszone.

Eithne had several appointments today - 2 for her eyes - one with the orthoptist and one with her eye specialist. She is at risk for an infection behind her eye because of the arthritis she suffers from in her knee. She is more at risk for getting the infection because 1) she is young, 2) she is a girl and 3) because her ana result is positive (we didn't find out it was positive until we saw them at Alder Hey) - so she will be having checkups probably every 3 to 4 months now until she's 8 (at least we were told it was 8 last time).

Then we had to hurry on over to Alder Hey for her checkup on her knee. I noticed in the car her right knee seemed to be a bit bigger than her left, and DH saw that it was while we were in the waiting room at the hospital. When the specialist got to checking her knees, her right knee is indeed starting to swell up again, so she is having another steroid injection on the 24th.

I'm guessing we've caught it at the beginning of the swelling, but it's been almost a year since it first started to swell. We had hoped that she would only ever need that one injection she had last year - but I guess not. She is one of those children who will need more than 1 in her life time.

We then go back in April again for her normal 3 monthly checkup.

HUGS. You're such a good mother Arianna. Hope Eithne is doing OK with all the check ups. Must be so tiring for her. It's good you caught the swelling early, bless her.

Thanks hun. She was great - didn't seemed to be phased by the fact she saw 2 doctor's at one hospital and then had to rush to another hospital to see another doctor. In fact at Chorley hospital she was most interested in the posters and things they had up about the eye. LOL

I have a feeling we did catch it in the early stages as her knee is bigger today. I think last year if we had known what to look for and were conscious of her knee swelling, we would have caught it at the first stage as well.

Thanks hun. It does make a huge difference to my peace of mind this time around with her being under the care of the hospital. It was just coincidence we happened to be going to have her 3-monthly checkup and it was starting to swell.

Next week can't come fast enough - I want it to be over with very quickly.

Thanks hun. It was just a total coincidence we were going to the hospital on Friday and we noticed it that morning. Thankfully we only have to get through 1 week before the injection - hoping it works this time as well.

Maybe it won't affect her so much this time with it being caught so early.

Thanks hun - I guess we had just hoped she'd be the child who only needed one injection but she won't be. I can't believe how much of a coincidence it was that were are the hospital the day we started to notice the swelling. If we hadn't have been at the hospital on Friday, I would have been ringing them today as it's way more noticeable and now it's starting to affect her. She was struggling to walk down the stairs this morning so I had to go back up and carry her down.

Thankfully the team at Alder Hey are great and I haven't got any worries (or not as many as before anyway) with it as they as they are taking such great care of her.

Means next week will be a wee bit hectic with an unexpected hospital trip and then another unexpected day off while she recovers from a GA.
