I've just had the following message from Parcel Force.

I’m sure you will have seen details of the current weather across much of Scotland. These conditions mean that we need to take action now to ensure we can deliver the parcels already in our network for these Scottish postcodes, as well as continuing to deliver our normal high levels of service for the rest of the UK where conditions are improving.

The prolonged nature and extreme severity of the weather conditions being experienced across the majority of Scotland are virtually unprecedented this early in the winter and the forecast for next week is for very similar conditions. Whilst we will continue to deliver as many parcels each day as we possibly can, if we accept more parcels for the affected areas it will make recovery from the current position exceedingly difficult.

It is with deep regret that we have taken the unprecedented decision to not accept any parcels for delivery in our Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Aberdeen depots until we are confident that we can guarantee delivery in time for Christmas. We will be reviewing the position daily and provide an update at the earliest opportunity.

We obviously realise the concern that this may cause you and your customers, but we believe this is the most appropriate and responsible action given the extreme circumstances that we find ourselves in.

I just thought you would like to know in case you use Parcel Force but do not have an account with them. This is worse than the previous situation which was that we could send items but they would not guarantee the delivery times, as now we can't even send them. I imagine other couriers will be doing the same or similar very soon too.

Parcelforce have been absolutely awful this year, I'm having to spend hours every day chasing deliveries. When you chase they just give you some bumpf about not being able to get info and sorry can't help or it's in the depot which I already knew thanks to useless tracking.

I've had to refund customers, they've given my parcels to totally the wrong people and refuse to collect them back. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH.

And guess who gets all the abuse from customers.

I'm totally totally on the edge this year and they are NOT HELPING.

Oh Tash that sounds awful. It is strange because I use Parcel Force every day and have only had one parcel that has been a pain - they couldn't find the address even though the customer had provided detailed instructions of how to find them and she ended up collecting it from her local Post Office in the end.

I hope things calm for you a bit soon, though I realise that calm might not actually be good for business! LOL
