Wasn't sure, but thought I would ask....
Do any of you lovely ladies sell anything suitable for an ASD fiddler? My local town was positively useless today and I need something asap (hence wandering the shops getting very very odd looks rather than asking here first)..
Would be really really grateful.. xx

I use a fiddle box at work for one of my residents who has dementia. Its an icecream container type box and it has all sorts of things in it like a sting of beads, a small box with a hinged lid, actually loads of stuff I just found in the kitchen drawer. All safe things. I give it to her when she is getting very agitated and she sits taking the bits out and messing with them for about half an hour but I don't suppose you mean that type of thing do you.
Is it something you could make. Is it lots of different things sewn onto something to fiddle with. I will have to look in some of my resources catalogues and see if theres anything in there as they cater for both children and elderly adults with all types of conditions.

Kate that's it exactly!
Ben has a nervous anxiety thing where he is picking the skin all over his fingers and thumbs until there isn't any skin left. It's really upsetting for me and it really hurts him. Its a form of self harm and although this wont treat the cause, it might give us time to work on that with the help of CAHMS and such like. It was suggested today.
Ideally it has to be something which is pliable, something that he can literally fiddle with (push, pull, play with) to stop him from attacking his fingers when he is so anxious. Ideally it needs to sit in his pocket and not be too babyish so he doesn't get bullied for it...
Thanks Kate, would be grateful!

Knitting Nancy (http://www.knotjustjigs.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=174) at KnotJustJigs?, You can make stuff with the twibe as well and it's not to hard to get the hang of.
A less girly version would be a lucet (http://www.spinningweal.co.uk/shop/lucet-cordmakers/), that's what I used, the principal is the same :-)

How about a stress toy? I've had various free ones in the past from companies trying to promote their products but I haven't got any of them any more otherwise I'd have sent you one. I'm sure they must be readily available though.

I'm trying to find something for my youngest so that her busy fingers are active whilst she's concentrating. I have a rubix cube at work for the same thing but her teacher doesn't want anything that's visually stimulating or noisy. She wants her looking at her rather than looking down at the 'thing'.
She gave her blutac but it ended up squished into the carpet!
It also should be fairly indestructable!
Don't ask much!

That's what we got for him today.. Am hoping it's going to do the trick, but I'm not sure how long it will be ok for. It's a little big..

Suzy they have those in our £1 shop in the village, the ones with the face on. They are filled with cornflour, My kids have had them and they can break with rough play but I can look in there to see if they have any for you if you want.
