Tom's £150k housepital

Labour supporter ... Tom

TOM Cruise has splashed out £150,000 on a mini hospital in his mansion — for Katie Holmes to have their baby.

The Hollywood star has also hired three medics from his Scientology cult to care for his fiancée who is having a silent birth.

The delivery suite in his Beverly Hills mansion has been kitted out with a FETAL MONITOR, ULTRASOUND machine, INTRAVENOUS PUMP. DELIVERY KIT and INFANT WARMER SYSTEM to monitor the tot — due any day. A midwife, nurse and obstetrics expert are on stand-by.

Holmes birth ... pregnant Katie

Katie, 27, pictured on a shopping trip yesterday, has agreed to stay quiet and not take painkillers during labour — in line with Scientology beliefs.

Founder L Ron Hubbard claimed babies were traumatised by loud sounds at birth.

A source said: “Tom thinks his delivery room is the best way of providing a quiet environment. But if there are complications, she will be taken to hospital.”

Tom, 43, has bought a dummy and an iPod to help Katie stay mum.
Meanwhile, he’s been boasting in the May edition of GQ mag how “spectacular” their sex life is.

Tom Cruise is a freak, Scientologists are freaks. Anyone who wants to control their partner to that extent doesn't deserve to have one. Anyone who believes they should put their baby in a room on its own for a day and not feed change or look after it wants shooting!

Sorry thats probably too much and i'll get moaned at but he is only with her to prove a point n e way

What point is he trying to prove? Cant say I agree with the Scientology ways either, certainly not leaving the child on its own for the first day... as if its birth isnt traumatic enough, mother screaming or not!

Pain relief free and silent???? No chance!!!! I screamed the place down(and I had a pain relief free delivery by accident!). It's a nice idea to have pain relief free labours but she needs to be open minded to this experience, what is she going to do when the pain gets too much - will she keep going (and hats off to her if she does) or will he respect her need for a bit of help?

I think thats an awful lot to expect from any woman but have to point out - who decided this was a good thing? A man, someone who'll never experience childbirth. And I also think that leaving a newborn for a day is cruel but again, thought up by a man who'll never understand the bond between a mother and her child.
I know that everyone is entitled to their beliefs and I respect that but I really think L Ron Hubbard had something against women (I think he was trying to 'punish' them for being able to have children)

I do think its possible not to make much noise, I buried my face in pillow when I had dd3 at home and I had no pain relief, however, i would be very unsuprised if she is able to keep quiet throughout. Its all well and good her agreeing before hand to do this but when you are in labour the reality is very different to how you imagine it!

This is taken from a website about "Scientology"

What is a quiet or silent birth?

Having a quiet, gentle birth is all about providing the best possible environment for the birthing mother and her new baby.

It is labor and delivery done in a calm and loving environment and with no-spoken words by everyone attending as much as possible. Chatty doctors and nurses, shouts to “PUSH, PUSH” and loud or laughing remarks to “encourage” are the types of things that are meant to be avoided.

As L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of Dianetics and Scientology, wrote, “Everyone must learn to say nothing within the expectant mother’s hearing during labor and delivery.” And, “A woman who wants her child to have the best possible chance will find a doctor who will agree to keep quiet especially during the delivery, and who will insist upon silence being maintained in the hospital delivery room as far as it is humanly possible.”

Does this mean that a mother cannot scream or moan at all?

Of course they can make noises — the point of silent birth is NO WORDS. This is a principle of Dianetics and to fully understand why, read the book Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health, by L. Ron Hubbard. It is words that are the culprit. Outside of not speaking, the objective is generally to have as peaceful and relaxing an environment as possible for the mother and child. It is doubtful that any woman could give birth without making any noise at all.

Mothers naturally want to give their baby the best possible start in life and thus keep the birth as quiet as possible.

Hmm ok id say let me tie him to a chair and do not so pleasant things to his "private place" and he cannot cry out in pain if he can manage that then fair enough!!

But at the end of the day as Toni say's she can say no if she wants

I'm not sure, whassat, only referece I can find seems to be on anti-scientology sites, with no reference to a source.

I have seen something that refers to "Processing of a New Mother."

The article claimed that Katie was "nervous over the fact that the baby will be controlled by the sects handlers.

The process is described in the article as a "bizarre ritual that separates mother and child for three days allowing only minimal contact." Katie told Tom that she will reject this and told the star actor and Scientologist never to speak of this again."

This was dated February, I think.

I can understand the benefits of a "silent birth" if, as stated in a post above it refers to a calm environment for a natural birth - not having doctors etc shouting "push!" at you every 2 mins!!

My heart was broken the minute Tom joined scientology and now, after all this crap, I am officially breaking up with him!!
I think everyone's entitled to their own beleifs but those guys are wacked! And whoever thought of following a religion made up by some guy off the street who is, no less, than a science fiction writer? Hello....??????

I hope that Katie knows what she's getting into seing how she's never been in labor before. And if she changes her mind midway about the drugs will he let her have some????

Tom won't be needing any lunch today then.

I see she had the baby in hospital as well after it was predicted that she was going to have it at home.

Good luck to them.

The BBC news site says:

Actress Katie Holmes, who is engaged to film star Tom Cruise, has given birth to the couple's first child.

Holmes gave birth to a baby girl, Suri, on Tuesday in Los Angeles. Both mother and baby were "doing well", a spokesman said in a statement.

The baby is the first for Holmes, 27, while Cruise has two adopted children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.

The couple, who have been engaged since June 2005, plan to marry in late summer or early autumn, according to Cruise.

Spokesman Paul Bloch said in a statement that the couple "joyously welcomed" the arrival of their daughter.

The baby's name, Suri, came from Hebrew, meaning "princess" or in Persian, meaning "red rose", the statement said.

The baby weighed 3.4 kg (7lb 7 oz) and measured 50.8 cm (20 inches), Mr Bloch said.

No details were given about the birth itself, which had been the subject of much speculation.

Guess we will have to wait and see about the "silent birth" and "placenta" issues, then!

Apparently, she gave birth in the same hospital (on the same day) as Brooke Shields. Pretty ironic, if you ask me. :)

I wonder whose decision it was for her to go to the hospital. Also, from what I've read, she had an epidural. So much for the drug-free, silent birth. I'm just glad that she stuck up for herself (I'm guessing) and insisted on an epidural, even though those around her didn't want her to have one.
