I have just had a customer pay me via eCheque. Never heard of these before. For some reason, it has not created an order although in my admin panel it says order confirmation. Will the confirmation come through once the eCheque has cleared?

Hi
Is it a payment through paypal? I haven't had one in ages and ages so can't remember if it automatically notifies you but I do know I got stung once by dispatching an order before an echeque had cleared and then it bounced as they didn't have enough funds.
My memory (although I'm sure someone will come along and correct me) it took about 5 days for it to clear.
Hth. BTW Keep checking your paypal consol to see if it has cleared.

Thanks Nadine. I am not going to engrave until the funds have cleared. I have never heard of these before, so this is all new to me. I just have no information of the order at all. Luckily they had to create an account, so I can contact them but other than that - nothing.

PayPal usually create an eCheque when the customer's card is out of date in their PayPal account. Basically PayPal wait until they have received the funds from the bank before releasing it to you. I haven't had any recently either, but there was a time when I used to receive at least one or two each month. They can take anywhere up to 10 days to clear. If you look in your PayPal account it should tell you when they expect it to clear. Your customer won't know that it is being processed as an echeque, so it is worth pointing out to them that you are waiting for the payment to clear otherwise they may wonder why you are taking longer.

Thanks for that friendlybaby. I tried ringing them but no answer, so will wait for them to respond to my email. The date is says it will have cleared by is 14 June. Hopefully they will respond as I told them I would get the order out tomorrow.

I've only had one of these and it was quite awhile but I'm pretty sure it created the order in the admin panel once it had cleared as PayPal didn't recognise the order as being completed/placed until the funds were there in the paypal account.

Thanks Arianna, that is what I was wondering. If they decide they don't want to wait for it to clear and I refund the eCheque and they pay via normal Paypal, will it continue with that order conformation or will they have to re-order do you know?

I don't know how that would work. :-(
It might come back through though as cancelled so that'd be okay.
If they cancel the echeque, I'd get them to replace the order and then just keep an eye out for any additional orders to come through.

I had one recently which went through fine, it took, um, about 5 working days and they sent an email once it had cleared :-)

I emailed them yesterday and also phoned and left a message on their machine. She contacted me 11 last night :smiley-fa and asked me to cancel the eCheque and she would re-do it, which I did. She re-ordered and paid via Nochex this time, so all is good.

I have that very occasionally. Customers think they'll ring and leave a message, or find out what time our opening hours are, and then jump out of their skin when I answer it. LOL
