Mine has stopped pumping water out :-( Got it second hand about 11 years ago and have hammered it so time for a new one now.
I don't want to spend heaps ( under £300 ) but I don't want something that will last just a year.
Any help appreciated, I have never bought a new washing machine!

we have a indesit moon & would not recomend it to anybody less than 3 years of light use and we need to change but pennies dont stretch that far so it has to wait.

I did a LOT of research on this a couple of years ago and this one (http://www.johnlewis.com/230420541/Product.aspx) was the most recommended if you don't want to spend Miele money. We use cloth nappies so we've used it a lot and it's fab!

your best bet is zanussi or beko to be honest, my beko last me 6 years and only had to be fixed once due to my fault, my zanussi one is fab, had low cycle washes, and does the job very well, you want a good spin as well to get the water out the clothes, i am sure what ever you choose will be great, and both of these were under 300 xx

The local electrical shop said Zanussi to me too. The John Lewis ones are rebranded Zanussi. So all in all Zanussi good :-)

I brought this one in November and it does exactly what it says on the box. Its fab and under £200 though I admit its gone up cause I only paid £168 they also took the old one away for free and the delivery was free too.

Only ever had two washing machines and both were/are Zanussi, first one lasted about 12 years, this one so far fingers crossed is going strong after 4 years

Beko is cheap but break down a lot so no value for money, Mines an indesit with 2 labour and 5 year part warranty and it was under £300 pounds. Id recomend it, its eco friendly and A+ rated.
Check out Hector's thread (http://www.mumszone.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=87772&highlight=washing+machine) for more recommendations

I have to say Bosch washing machines have been fantastic for us. We had our first one for over 10 years and it was still going strong but we sold it to get a larger capacity one. You can get them for under £300 (I think they are just more basic than the more expensive ones but just as well built). I've also bought from Co-op Electricals before and they were very reliable, so this one might be OK.

thanks everyone, I got this - http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/555410/HOTPOINT-WMF720P?cm_sp=FeatureEnd-_-Washing_Machines-_-position but reduced so that it was £270 installed, delivered and the old one taken away. Hope it will be ok!
Question about installation now, I am so used to bodging things that I heve never had anything apart from a boiler installed by someone else!
The water pipe ends a units width away from the washing machine, at the moment there is a long connector on there, will Comet be funny about connecting it if it is so far away? I have to take the plug off myself and push it through the worktop because they will invalidate the warrantee if they do it themselves, so I am expecting other bits of beurocracy to make this thing a nightmare!
And.... in the shop they said that the installer will cap off the hot water pipe for me but online it says they do not do that. argh
