Hi guys:D

I am wanting/needing to work from home, I haven't really got a clue what to sell, how I go about it? etc! Can anyone give me some inspiration, how did you all get started, is it as daunting as you thought? Do you *do ok* with it etc?

Any ideas would be great""cutey""b

Hi Emma

I started trading on ebay first and then did the website. I only really make pin money, but I set up a business for something to do to stop me getting bored and to earn a little extra cash.

Dh has a software business and he earns very good money, but it has taken quite a while to happen.

Its a tough as there are so many sites out there now, but it depends on what you are selling and what kind of income you want to make.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I think it's really hard to make real money for a couple of years in any business so it depends why you want to start up your own business and to what kind you go for and how you do it. I think if you make something yourself then ebay is a good place to start and if you can make it a hobby too then even better :) If you want to make good money quickly you'll need to do your research and find a nieche. I think it's always advisable though to go with what you know if you can and to do something you enjoy as it can be really hard.

If you're crafty then that's always a good area to begin in because it can be your hobby too and because everything you do will be unique in design you'll have your own selling point. Plus if it's good enough then there is the potential to start supplying others etc.

Good luck, just take your time it took me 2 years from first idea to first sale but it's worth the time :) Look at the businesslink website and a few others first that should help a bit.

Hi there
I work for Usborne books at home. I can tell you all about it if you are interested. It's really easy (and not very expensive) to get started - there is also a special offer on for April. Commission starts at 24% from day one. Have a look at my website (link below) and drop me a line or give me a call if you want to chat about it :)

Good luck finding the right thing for you :)

Hi Emma

Mine feels a bit more like an expensive hobby than a business at the moment (i.e. spending more than I make) but hey...am hoping that will all change.

Key thing is to really really think about it and plan it before you start. And also it helps to like the things that you do. I sell gifts for mums to be, new mums and new babies, and I love it!!

Hobbies are always a good start.
Hope this helps...

Hi,

Have you ever thought of building your own website? You can do so without spending alot. Just an idea.

I have my own site on home and herbal remedies. I have been building it now for 18 months and I am gradually building up traffic and making a bit of money from google adsense.

Send me a message if you have any questions.

20061010 Thanks guys, I haven't been on for a couple of days and have just read your replies:happy72: The only hobby I have really is an interest in antiques/collectables, I love mooching around junk shops/car boots/antique fairs!

Will send a couple of you a pm about the info you have given me, thanks:happy72:

You might do quite well with that sort of thing on Ebay, although the costs can creep up, so make sure you do some research on what other people are selling their stuff for first, good luck x

Emma that could be a good area to go into especially if you specialise in one area, start on ebay and see how it goes with just a few pieces and if there is an interest and it's viable then move onto your own website. :) There are some super bargains to be had at things like boot fairs if you know what you're looking for which of course I don't lmao!

LOL at the 'take your time' thing, I think it took me about 8 weeks with help from my webhosts! I saw something I wanted, said to dh, 'wonder if they'd send me a 'sample' if I email them and tell them I'm thinking of starting a shop' and he said 'well you could actually start a shop...' Was 8m preg when I opened too.

Yes I'm mental...
