Hi there -

So far, we have managed without a business account, we've just used our joint account. I think we've now reached the stage where we probably need a designated bank account, so does anyone recommend their business bank account? I'm not looking for anything flashy, we don't need a cheque book or overdraft facility, we really just need an account to pay money in from paypal and the facility to receive bank transfers/cheques from other customers.

Recommendations please? Thanks!!

I use Abbey Business banking, it's mainly online based.

I like the fact it gives you the first £3000 per month, without business charges.

I'd recommend both Alliance & Leicester and the Co-op - both have been brilliant.

We only switched to the coop as we get free banking through the FSB otherwise would have stayed with A&L.

You can bank at the post office with both - infact the Coop use the A&L postoffice banking!

I wouldnt recommend Abbey as they cost my business around £1k thanks to lost cheques! But I might have just been unlucky.

I use Alliance & Leicester. I switched from Abbey as they were absolutely awful.
Long story.....but in short had my card cloned...was stung for £18K and Abbey didn't stop the card even though they were aware and then granted overdraft to let the money keep coming out.

I use HSBC. Very good, and free banking forever. I mainly use their online banking, but do have a cheque book that I have used once. I also pay the very occasional cheque in.
