Just started out on Twitter and I have a couple of questions for you more experienced people.

If you are following someone, can you post on their twitter page or is it just for reading? Finally, with the characters you allowed, if you go to a negative, can you still post or do you have to keep above 0?

I am sure I will have lots more questions as I get more into it.

No, you can only use the characters allowed, this is why you need to shorten urls. Have you downloaded Tweet Deck? That has a bit to shorten them rather than having to go to the Tiny Url site (or similar).

You can reply to someone so your reply ends up on their page.

I don't really 'get' twitter either, I don't really understand how people use it for networking. Do you just start commenting on people's tweets?

Sorry this is a really daft question

I think so, also follow some random people and hope they follow you back, that sort of thing.

there are quite a few of 'us' on there to get you started!

Yeah, ask on here and that will get you some followers, then on Fridays everyone recommends other people to follow as well so that will get you off to a good start. It is one of those things where you really just chat about yourself and if others find you interesting then they will take a look at your site etc and that could get you sales.

I have been asked to send a DM to someone but I cannot find how to do it, can anyone help. I have found the DMs on the right hand side but I cannot reply to the DM that I was sent. There is no icon besides a delete one and there is nowhere to type the persons name although there is a drop down box at the top with about 5 names in it.

Do they need to be following you to reply?

I think they do need to be following you in order for you to DM them Alison, yes

I have found twitter really useful for networking - I have made a lot of useful contacts there - from people who have done reviews for me to people who have tweeted about my work that has led to orders! I am a bit of a Twitter addict to be honest though and can find it distracting too LOL!

question from me, too- does anyone know how I can customise my profile page background, eg with a picture of the Wheels, a web address etc?

I did mine a few months ago: www.twitter.com/glassraven

I made the background image in photoshop and then just setup the background colours for various elements using their interface - under settings IIRC.

I just did mine through Settings, Design and then chose a tiled background. It's not perfect but after a bit of playing around at least you can see the logo and tagline now.
