What is a blog carnival?

It's a kind of mega guest posts event on a blog.
The carnival host asks for submissions from other bloggers (these are usually on a theme) and then choose the ones they like the best, which are then published on the host blog with a link back to the guest bloggers blog.
It's a nice way to get publicity and a backlink :)
