View Full Version : A few (probably daft!) Facebook questions
Chiggs

So, this afternoon I've finally (about 3 years late!) set up a business 'fan' page on Facebook for Chiggs Wheels (it's here (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chiggs-Wheels/205607680031?ref=nf) )
So far I've added a few photos (the Wheels, press recommendations and some piccys of the Card and Wrap trade fair). I'd like to add some more bits and pieces like the story behind the business, some trade and wholesale info and profiles of some stockists with links to their facebook fan pages.
How am I best to do this- as a 'discussion' or as a wall post (or doesn't it make a difference!)?
Also, can I become a fan of other business pages as 'Chiggs Wheels' or only on my personal facebook profile, or both?
Finally (and I did warn you they were daft questions :cheesy:) what am I trying to achieve with my facebook page? Embedded links to the Chiggs website? Gaining fans so the Chiggs page appears on their profile and is shown to their friends? Erm, anything else?! :D
Hi,
Looks great - I've just become a fan and also added it to one of Stallfinder's favourite pages. The only problem with adding your background story to either your wall or a discussion is that it will get pushed down by later posts and eventually disappear too far down to see. You could put it at the start of your products description under Info or in the box at the top left of your page but it might make it way too big.
When you become a fan of other businesses unfortunately it does it in your own name/personal profile rather than your business.
As far as what you're trying to achieve, I think the main use of these pages is to raise awareness of your business. Like you say people will hopefully spot your page in their friends' profile and be curious or hopefully lots of people will share your link with others. You can also get more blog visitors by feeding your blog in automatically and some people also do it with Twitter. I get quite a lot of hits via Facebook so it's quite useful but I wish it was easier to keep your business and personal profiles completely separate.

You can add pages as a fave of your page, if that makes sense, but I think you have to become a fan first to do it. I am however still learning my way around it as I haven't used facebook for ages.
Hi,
I think you can make a page one of your page's favourites without becoming a fan. Or at least you used to be able to. Probably find Facebook have changed that now too - seems like each time I use it something's changed!

No you are right, I was doing it from memory and it let me down (as usual!).

ah, good, thanks for the adding pages tip (and indeed for adding my page to yours, Gail :D )
It's starting to make a bit more sense, although I can't believe how confusing I'm finding it- I thought I was getting a bit more internet savvy (apparently not :cheesy:)

I didn't set up a separate account as I didn't think you could but I wish I had now so that when I become a fan it shows up as Stallfinder rather than me. Also, I get friends requests from people I don't really know when I really wanted to keep my personal Facebook account separate from my business. Unfortunately with Facebook I don't think you can switch over once you've created it - I think you have to start from scratch. They're a bit funny about names though so you might not be able to create an account in your business name.

The problem with Facebook is that, just as you think you've cracked it, they make major changes so it's all completely different again. It's not very user friendly. Even the help section's not that easy to find!

I set up a separate business facebook page as I didn't think the one 'tagged' to my personal page was really working.
It only has 3 fans at the moment so please feel free to join!

You can join the other as well if you wish!

Hi Chris,
The 1st link you posted was to a Facebook profile rather than a business page.
Gail.
I've just realised something. If one of your Facebook friends is also friends with one of your competitors, the competitor will be able to see any comments the mutual friend adds on your page/wall etc. I may have to unfriend some people :(
