Hello, I am new to the site and think it's brilliant!
I am in the process of researching a business idea that will enable me to work from home and get away from my full time job to spend more time with my daughter.
Am I allowed to post a link to a survey about my business on this site? I don't want to break the rules within 5 minutes of me joining the forum!

Hi and welcome to Mumszone. I'm afraid you're only allowed to post a link to your business in the chitchat section in your introduction thread until you have 30 posts so get chatting and you'll soon be there.

I have 2 business ideas. One is for a local community magazine that is specifically aimed at mothers. I have had my first 'dummy' copy printed to entice potential advertisers.
The second is to build and decorate children's dolls houses.
I had looked at opportunities like party planning, etc, like many mums seem to do, but wanted to own my own business and business idea.
My survey relates to mums and their thoughts on dolls houses - ie: would you buy one, how much would you pay, etc

Hi and welcome to the site. just quicly i thought id say id buy dolls houses ( if i had girls , although i know my eldest boy whos 2 would love some sort of dolls house lol i think most boys would given half the chance.)
i think cost wise id pay £50 for a house and basic set of furniture , then possibly have options to buy more sets. i wouldnt think going into the dainty stuff like adults collect would be as good as not so robust for kids but some nice tough stuff would be fab. you could even sell a set of "paint your own" furniture with some safe paints etc letting them personalise their house.
hope that helps.

Love the idea of the dolls house site, i would buy one for my girls (if they were younger) and probably pay upto 80.00, i met a man at a craft fair at the weekend that handmade dolls house furniture and it was exquisite! he also made some pieces that fitted together to form one small rectangle but when taken apart it became a table and 4 chairs! he said he designed and made these for rich travelling famillies when he was back in South Africa... sorry i went off on a tangent :cheesy:
Welcome !lol

Thanks for all your helpful replies.
I am struggling to source a decent supplier at the moment given that the one i want to supply me with dolls houses will only agree to a trade account if I have retail premises first.
Is it me or is that quite silly? I cannot set up a business premises and then start to think about suppliers. Maybe I need to look elsewhere. i am struggling with this also, however, as there are some companies that import dolls houses from China but they are not CE certified, which would make it impossible and illegal (I think) to sell to children.
Anyone know of a good wholesaler/distributor of wooden toys for children? I have searched for weeks and only come up with a potential list of 3.:ac39:

Unfortunately it can take more than a few weeks to discover new and good suppliers! It has taken me years :cheesy:
Good luck :happy72:

I can imagine knotjustjigs - I have looked at your products and think they are great.
I found you through the mumszone shopping directory when I bought a pr book.
I will use your efforts as inspiration that good suppliers can be found - I will do it. I will do it!

Unfortunately you've missed the toy fair but you may find some suppliers b y trawling the links:
http://www.toyfair.co.uk/exhibitors/exhibitors_list.php
I'd approach your local trading standards about information on CE making and how to certify. One way round is to describe them as 'Not toys'
www.fairwayimporters.co.uk offer trade prices
