Edmund is going to a Birthday party a week on Saturday so we need to get a present. I don't really know the little boy so don't know what his interests are. He has an older sister so their house is probably already full of toys. Ideas please...

Has anyone seen one of these eco rockets (http://www.oxfam.co.uk/shop/productdetails.aspx?catalog=HighStNew&product=HN269743)? Are they any good?

My nearly 3 year old is currently eyeing up Doodlebugs (http://www.littlesheep-learning.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=51&products_id=275) and Shape beanbags (http://www.littlesheep-learning.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=3_20&products_id=201)

We looked at stocking the eco rocket, but decided against it as we didn't really think they were good enough. We've got lots of stuff that would be great for a 3 year old boy:

Hover missiles: http://www.spacekids.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=11 These are brill, my kids love them!

Build it rocket: http://www.spacekids.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=22

We've also got various different realistic saturn V rockets and space shuttles, astronaut food, NASA baseball caps etc.

Why is that? I've seen several reviews on various different websites and they all sing its praises. I prefer eco toys so was thinking about this seriously so would appreciate your insider knowledge as to why I shouldn't get it!

I think it is one of those toys that looks good from a parent's perspective but doesn't really have much staying power from a kids point of view.

It looks really good, a funky design, but I think beyond that it doesn't have much to it. I think the winding up and lighting up bit will keep kids amused for a while, but I don't think it would be enough to keep it as something that would be played with. It would look good on a shelf.

I suppose for me a wind up torch would be more purposeful, and would probably get better use. I don't think the "rocket" bit adds anything, but it's probably just me being a space-snob (if such a term exists). Different kids like different things of course!

Sorry, I've rambled and I don't think I've explained myself very well! If you do buy it and it turns out to be a real hit please let me know and I might then reconsider my decision!!

The Zoobookoo number cube (http://www.educationtakeaway.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=62&idproduct=79) is very popular and ideal for little hands. Very tactile.

I thought you might like some feedback on the ecotronics space rocket...it is blooming fantastic! All of the kids adore it. The parents love it. Since his Birthday it is the ONLY thing he has played with, and even his big sister is willing to play with him if she can play with his rocket too. They asked where they could buy them from as they are thinking of buying one for a friend, so it is a shame that you don't sell them as that is two sales you have missed out on now.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. We will have to take another look!
