Afternoon,

Can anyone give me any guidance on the best way to create pdf's? I want to make some step by step guides and link them to my website. I think that pdf file would be best but don't really know much about them and what programmes I need!

Thanks

Hi Vicki

I use openOffice to create my guides then export to PDF - you can take a look at one in my resources section:
http://www.glassraven.com/web-design-resources.php

There are currently 2 pdf articles on there, the others are HTML files at the moment (though I may be creating downloadable PDF versions when I get chance).

Actually reading your post has reminded me that I need to upload the more recent guides Ive created!

OpenOffice is really simple to use and once you've saved your guide just click 'export to PDF' and its sorted :)

thanks Sadie,

How do you export them into a pdf?

Do you use their Writer, save it then export it?

Is it easy to do? I want to add images and information to my worksheets but nothing too fancy.

Thanks

I use this it's soo simple: http://www.primopdf.com

Once it's installed you choose the option of Print on your pc and on the drop down menu it should appear as PRINTPDF. You can then you save you doc as a pdf and/or print etc;

Used for over two years and a doddle HTH

Dead easy - its one of the options on the toolbar, next to print :D

If you are not familiar with openOffice its basically an opensource version of the Microsoft Office suite so I use the OO version of word to create them and then save as PDF (the button is called 'export to PDF') in 1 click :D

oh and this link:
http://www.glassraven.com/articles/optimising-images.pdf

Has a selection of text and images in it, so maybe similar to what you wish to do :)
