Are you only going to do weddings or will you branch out into other stationery do you think?

The problem is some people can't spell 'stationery' properly and good luck finding a good domain with 'wedding' or 'weddings' in.

I'm still thinking S :happy72:

I think you need something that tells people what you do, is easy to remember, and easy to spell.

If you're starting out with wedding stationery and are intending to extend the range into other occasions, then maybe something with "occasions", "events" or "celebration" in it.

Think about what search terms people will use to find your product - this may help you.

Do you have an idea of a logo or some kind of "hook"? I have a frog logo (which developed over time), and if I could go back, I would have named the business around the logo because it is more memorable that way. So it would be funky frog party bags or something similar. So if you're going to have a logo which involves a flower or a symbol like a heart, you could use that in your business name.

This has probably complicated things further, but if it might help your thought processes?

This has probably made things more complicated

How true - in fact you could have just said 'some people can't spell"!!

oh you have got me started!!!
They also want to 'americanise' everything e.g. change 's' to 'z' as in personalized.....
so it depends who you see as your customers as to how to set up your website and domain name.

I would suggest something alphabetically advantageous, all too often you'll be in a list eg stalls at a wedding fair, you want to be on the front page.
eg alloccasionsdesigns.co.uk (except no-one will spell occasions right and I bet that domain is taken)
or something that is distinctive but has no 'meaning' as such whereby you can hope to be remembered by being 'different' eg allshellys .co.uk as in 'all shelly's own work' (quite like that as it's short and distinctive, easy to remember and spell, and definitely not alphabetically challenged)

I had the same problem when I was setting up Posh Daisy which is why I settled on that. I think finding the right name is one of the hardest parts of setting up lol

Naming a business is such a hard task! You've had some great advice though.

A couple of things I'd think of in addition is if the domain name is available, but also sound it out - you will most likely be giving the name out over the phone, or wanting people to remember it to type into the pc later.

One of my clients found they had to purchase variants on their name in order to get found - they had chosen Reel Arts (a video company) but it was potentially being miswritten as realarts - luckily both names were available as domains :D

Hope you can find a suitable name :)

I would spend some time researching other sites selling the same as you for ideas and what to avoid. Write down a shortlist of keywords or variations of groups of words you like and then run them through a domain name sales site - I use 123reg. That way you will see what is available and what's not. It took a while to come up with Candeez because all my previous ideas had already been taken. When you have whittled your list down to a few put them into google and see what type of similar site they refer to, just in case something unsavoury comes up similar to your chosen name.

Also, a thought is to give your site a sophisticated sounding female name and not make direct reference to the product/business type in the name. I think this can sound a bit more high end, and you can concentrate on your web text and metadata etc to improve your google rankings.

I hope that makes sense. A friend of mine runs a jewellery business which has a made up name which just sounds lovely and sophisticated and a bit posh. it can sound a bit more exclusive than a "come and look at my wedding stationery" type name. You then go along the lines of a sort of Jocasta Innes/Cath Kidston type vibe thing.

Am I making any sense? Probably not. Something like francescasnow.com or some other name that I now can't think of!!

Sorry, I have been thinking about your post all day and this is the best I have managed to come up with!!
