Anyone use Google Adwords. It's one step forward and 10 back. Just when I think I have mastered it (well got one showing) next thing it's not showing

I use Adwords - I have a budget of £1 per day and get most of my Adwords hits from other websites (not Google) - mosty they come from Ebay and Amazon.

If there are a lot of advertisers for a particular keyword, or you have ran out of budget for the day, then your ad won't show every time.

you can get free adword vouchers though. HSBC gave me a bundle.

It also depends on what you set your maximum amount per click to be - if there are peple that have bid more than you then they will appear and you won't.

Think you can only use the vouchers if you are a new cusotmer to adwords. I've managed to get it right for 3 of the 4 campaigns I'm running. Just can't work out where I have gone on the 4th one.

Think that is what they called content network, Iv'e switched that off. Going to switch it back on, in a week or so, so I can work out which is working better for me.

Content network was a waste of money for me. It was displaying my ads in non-relevant places and people were clicking, possibly accidentally, with no intention of looking around the site or buying.

Hi, if you are able to set up the google analytics tool (free) it will tell you lots of info about your visitors and sales including where each one is coming from so you can tell if the adwords are creating sales or just visitors.
For the last month, adwords created 8% of my sales so 92% came from 'free' sources (although for the amount I spend on adwords I think it is worth continuing).
I have also switched off content network as though sites did not seem to bring in sales for me.
If I can help with anything, just let me know.

Thanks for the offer. Still can't work out why 3 are working but the 4th. though it was soemthing to do with the time, as I have it set for certain time, but it's not that. What esle could it be?

Does it say that the 4th campaign is active?
It is odd if 3 are OK - does it 'look' any different to the other 3?
So you have 4 separate campaigns - not 4 ad groups in 1 campaign?
Sorry for stating the obvious, just trying to figure it out.
I can not think of anything that the others haven't said: bid cost, run at selected times, daily allowance.
Do you get any clicks / impressions going through at all for the 4th one?
Is there any data showing in the summary, keyword, ad variations sections of the ad in campaign 4? Again, sorry for the obvious - just frustrating cos I can not see it!

We've been using adwords for awhile now, at first we wasted loads of money but now it's really working for us. I signed up for some webseminars through the google adwords website and these also helped greatly. I also attended 'Google University' at a show in London. The seminars are free. The only draw back is if you have school pickups they tend to start at 3pm most of the time. Good Luck

I'm thinking about facebook and or google adwords advertising - what are "impressions"????
the whole thing confuses me and I'm scared of accidentally running up a huge bill

Impressions show how many time your advert was displayed on a page being viewed by someone. That costs nothing in google.
A click is when someone actually clicks on your displayed advert and goes through to your website.
You are then charged.

I've worked it out. I had the budget set at a very low rate (thought that was the per click cost) so once this amount had been used up it didn't show. Have changed it and all is well. smiledance

After all the crap I've read in lots of different places I doubt I'd ever bother with google adwords, it's an auction for advertising, and the rules are obscure to the point of unintelligable
which according to this article on a respected IT news web site, is how they want it to be.

Only read page 1 of that, but it wasn't news to me. I'm sure most people realise that their ad won't show up every time. Google are quite clear if you read all of the information about that. They say it depends upon how much you have bid compared to everyone else for that particular keyword, how popular your ad has proved to be in the past, etc.
