It is so cold that the pot of water I keep next to my torch for sticking red hot pokey things in is frozen and yesterday I had to defrost my pot of clay slip stuff (liquid clay) in a bowl of hot water before I could use it. I wouldn't mind but I have a radiator but theres no point in having it turned on because until I have aquired an extractor fan I have to work with the door and windows open and it's bliddy freezing :cold1::chillpill "violin"1 :12:

Brr! Sounds cold in there!!!

The tap in our garage froze up completely yesterday (I couldn't even turn it on, let alone get any water out of it). Last night, it obviously defrosted slightly, so it was ON all the time - the hot water tap as well - gah!. Something inside has cracked, so DH has had to take time off work to go and try and get a replacement bit for it. In the meantime, water is turned off to stop us wasting water AND gas (combi boiler).

Sorry - hi jacked your thread with a small rant! - hopefully its warmed up a little today where you are!

I don't know how you cope with that cold. Yesterday evening I went out to package up orders and I had on 2 cardigans, a coat, fingerless gloves and my fingers hurt so much after about 5 minutes that I could barely cope with the pain. It took me about 5 minutes just to open a big cardboard box on two sides to fold it flat as my fingers just wouldn't work. Thankfully I only had about 15 orders to package up and they were all simple ones, so I was probably out there for just over half an hour but that was enough for me.

Its not too bad one I get working as the torch chucks out a lot of heat so my top half warms up a fair bit but my feet, even though I've got thick socks and ugg type boots remain freezing and I have a blanket over my legs. I might try a hat if I get time to torch today as the wind is a bit whistly round my ears.

I don't envy you at all Kate. Get Tim working at the weekend to sort out some kind of extractor for you if he can, then you can have your heating on. Good luck working today.

Yeah right. I have never known anybody work outside in all weathers like you do Ketty. If you think it is cold, god help the rest of us then.

Could you leave it until next week Kate? It's supposed to be a bit warmer after the weekend...

Wish I could, I've got so much to do, I'm supplying 3 shops now too and I've done nothing much at all over Christmas.

Aww, poor boy. Do you stop cooking, cleaning, etc, at the weekend then?

Well I'll see you at the weekend then.

That's great that you're so busy, but I don't envy you being out in a cold shed! How do you keep your fingers working? Mine seize up when I'm cold (probably an age thing :cheesy:)

I feel so lucky that my family put up with my stock strewn over the house. Mind you I am trying really hard this year to not bury the dining table under balloons and ribbons, as we want the children to get used to having family tea time sitting at the table. So far it is going well.

My hands are cold during the day in our house with no heating on, the windows are really drafty, but not to the extent where water freezes.

There was an experiment the other day to show that it is more important to wrap up your extremities in cold areas than to be dressed, so yes a hat should help you lots.

We're OK - until the building's main shutter is open, then all the warm air (we're upstairs) disappears because they will leave the full height shutter fully UP when they've parked their little car across the sensor. We have industrial 3KW fan heater but it blows the extension lead fuse as there's insufficient power to our bit to cope with that and the 2kW heater, sadly, otherwise we'd be really toasty and warm
