I have call barring thing on my phone so private numbers and withheld numbers cant ring through. I just had a phone call and they held the phone for a min then put it down. (I waited cos some companies usually take a few second to 'click in' so thought it was a company) then they hung up -I did 1471 and the number given was 01234 - thats the whole number not just the area code?? whats that all about??

that is wierd
I've done a google search and it comes up as the prefix for Bedfordshire phone numbers and the code for businesses

That sounds interesting, I bet that stops loads of business calls. Does it stop people who are x-directory calling you?

if x-directory numbers are withheld automatically then yes, not sure if they are though. It is quite good cos it does stop most businesses/painsin the arses getting through lol
Can be a pain aswell though as the hospital have to go through their switchboard to get hold of me.

X-directory numbers are automatically held. That means some of my friends wouldn't be able to phone :(
Maybe I won't bother then. We are signed up with a company that stops almost all business calls except the mobile phone ones, don't now why they get through :angry-smi

we r paying bt so much a month to stop with held numbers calling us, and people on ntl and other telephone services can still call us annoymously which doesent seem right, have u phoned the telephone preference service as well to stopp unneccessary callers, will look for the link or u can google it

I think that's who I registered with, but it doesn't stop mobile phone companies calling for some reason.
