View Full Version : Missing Parcel

I sent an item out to a customer on 13 November from Babies Boutique. It went first class, so should have been there by 15 at the latest but it still hasn't arrived yet. I know that I have sent items out with Perfect Presents first class and they have taken a week to be delivered as they were classed as packet rather than letter, which is so annoying when you pay for first class not parcel.
This is the first time that anything hasn't been delivered and I wondered what the procedure was for claiming back. Do I have to allow 15 working days before the parcel is considered lost? I cannot expect my customer to wait for the 15 days before sending out a replacement (or can you)? I have asked her to wait a few more days just to make sure it doesn't arrive but if it isn't delivered by Wednesday I will send out a replacement by Special Delivery.
Thanks

Suggest to your customer to ask at her local sorting office if either they have it there or if there are any known delays in her area - it is unbelievable how often parcels get returned and the customer has never had a card through telling her it is waiting. Also suggest that she asks her neighbours if they have taken it in and forgotten - this has also happened to me - even with a huge 10 kilo box!
In theory you are supposed to wait until 15 working days after it has gone missing before it is classed as lost but I never wait that long before sending another unless my customer is in no hurry for it. You will have to wait that long before submitting a claim though.
First class is first class, regardless of it being letter, large letter or parcel, and there is usually no difference in delivery times in my experience.

I don't know if there is a postal service problem atm, but I send all our invoices and statements out first class and lately they have been taking 4 days to reach the customer. I know I sent a statement out on 6th and by the 14th I was getting a phone call asking for an emailed statement instead as it hadn't been received and they were doing the payment run.

The post has definitely been slower the last few days here. In fact we had no post on Tues & Weds (even though I was expecting about 4 items - one was sent on the Saturday).

If you think about it - how much online Christmas shopping have each we all done in the last 2-3 weeks over and above our normal online shopping? It's all out there!

if she's not in a hurry, ask her wait a bit longer. if it dosn't turn up I think the forms are on the royal mail web site. Dh had to claim for a parcel the other month. we had a cheque for the ful amount within 2 weeks

It might not be lost. Just had a message from the lady who found a card underneath their doormat from last week which would tie in with delivery. It could be for my parcel but I won't know until she contacts Royal Mail. Fingers crossed.

I have noticed that the postal service is very slow at the minute!
I would get the customer to check at there local sorting office as I have heard there is always a stock pile there. If it has not arrived by Tuesday morning I would send out a replacement, and then start sorting out the claim!
It's a real pain is'nt it!
