DIY abortions for women in their own homes will be given the go-ahead, it has emerged.
Under the scheme, mothers-to-be will be allowed to take a series of powerful tablets that trigger a miscarriage at home instead of in hospital.
At the moment, a woman goes to a hospital or clinic to take a pill, which blocks vital pregnancy hormones and causes the foetus to detach from the womb lining.

She returns 48 hours later for a second tablet. Contractions, which may be very painful, are followed by an enforced "miscarriage", which can take up to six to eight hours. Doctors then check the patient to ensure the process is complete.

Under the proposals, women will make just one visit to hospital. They would be given one pill to take immediately and a second to take at home two days later. They would be advised to have a check-up 14 days after that

It will be for women less than 9 weeks pregnant

What do you think of this?

Not sure how I feel about this.

I understand its a tough decision to make and some people might find it easier to handle it at home rather than in a hosp.

I'm not sure about this, I understand that some people may feel more comfortable at home, but there is always a chance something could go wrong, surely you'll ba safer in hospital?

Not sure....I would have thought it would be safer in hospital rather than at home. It is also worrying that some younger girls may think it is an option of birth control rather than either being on the pill or taking proper precautions.

Dreadful, I don't agree with abortion at all.
I was offered this method when it was discovered at my 12 week scan that my baby had died, they said it was not very affective and I could end up coming back for a d&c later on. I chose the d&c in the end, but I was more than 9 weeks and there's rarely any need for d&c for a pregnancy ending before that time.

I agree. It is a tough decision for someone to make and i would have thought they were better off in hospital. My worry is that some girls will use it instead of contraception.

I think every woman has the right to decide, however, it does concern me that this will simply be used as another form of contraception.
