Hi,

Can i ask how you get the work as secretarial and admin from home, i was a secretary before i gave up to have my youngest and moved home and now would love to work at home but don't really know where to start to find the work.

I haven't done admin work myself but Ravenfire set up her own website saying the sorts of thing she does. You could also try asking about homeworker forums as there always seems to be someone who needs admin work done.

Hi Jo,

I originally setup my business as a Virtual Assistant 3 years ago. I only promoted the VA work for a short while because the web design part of my business became very busy.

I did quite a lot of research and found http://www.allianceofukvirtualassistants.org.uk/ had a lot of other Virtual Secretaries listed. Obviously this work is mainly undertaken over the Internet but this isn't usually a problem. You would just need to setup a web site to advertise your services and promote it.

Also put up some postcards in your local area or an advert in the parish magazine, I do quite a lot of secretarial work for local businesses who would rather pay for the work to be done when they need it rather than employ someone.

If you decide to work for yourself I would recommend lookng at Business Link's web site for some good information on starting up in business.
