Just pondering over last night's programme, and the Diamond Geezer bloke especially.

I found it quite telling that the Dragons appeared reasonably impressed when he told them he was number 9 on Google for the search term "diamond engagement ring".

If I told them I was number 8 on Google for the search term "party bags", do you think they'd offer me £250k :hysterica?

Mind you, I doubt I'd ever reach a 3 million plus turnover :cheesy:.

Might have been £3 million turnover but the profit was £3000

That's what I thought - 3k on 3 mil- that seems like bad business after all the time he's been on internet.
Wonder what they'd give mefor 'new mum gifts'- I hover between 3 and 4 on page one !:cheesy:

I didn't watch the programme last night so can't comment directly but just wanted to stick my ore in and say that it doesn't neccessarily mean bad business. Probably does!!! But factors such as fixed costs and variable costs mean that with some better financial handeling perhaps doing some better negotiating with suppliers or service providers could turn that 3k into something much larger very easily under the right hands. Growth can be very very expensive but can pay off once you've stabilised.

On the other hand he/they could just be complete twonks ;)

I thought his profit was quite low really

We don't know how much he was paying himself through his company though, do we - he could have had a wage and a taken a huge dividend through the company.

yes but you would think if he has paid himself huge divvies and salary then he would have been a lot more ammo'd up for the dragons.

I would be so embrassed to have beem trading on the internet more or less since it's inception and stand in front of the dragons and say I only made 3k profit out of 3 mil turnoverl ast year and nothing to show for it

In answer to babybiz: he hadn't expanded - at least not in a long while - that was what he wanted to do with dragons money although he was sitting on a freehold propery nearly worth half a mil and over 300k worth of stock!!

Ah right :) Like I said I hadn't seen it so was just hypothosing (sp?). It's all a bit wierd though, because surely a company with a turnover of that much making little profit that can't justify why would be considered a massive risk, they could go into the red very very quickly if their turnover dipped.

TBH I found it very strange him being on at all.
The best bit was that Debra backed out as soon as he introduced himself. She said - haven't I received and e-mail from you and I replyed saying it wasn't my thing? he said he'd never received her reply . The rules were that you are not meant to have had any previous communication with any of the dragons.
all a bit strange - but good telly and I am sure raised DG's profile anyway - as they say all pr is good pr !

My cynical DH seemed to think he only went on for the PR. I wonder how many unique visits he had today, after that. Me for one:cheesy:

I agree totally regarding the PR.

The man who had the "put the token in the slot" thing for TV's was there for the publicity, IMO. He could have easily funded the new business himself with the profits from his current business, but was asking for Dragon's money instead.

So either he didn't have enough confidence to put his own money in, or he was there purely to publicise his product.

That's exactly what I said! (or rather, yelled at the screen!)

I missed it, but recorded it thankfully so I'm now looking forward to watch it - sounds interesting

who is your favourite dragon?

I like Theo and Peter Jones( he is soooo tall) I often wonder if they are all happily married or if they have a mistress on the side :cheesy:

I agree - very sensible comments.

I have found myself in similar position, but my turnover was not that high :cheesy:

My favourite is Deborah - she comes across as very, very clever and is also straight and to the point - she seems more trustworthy than the others somehow - I feel the others would shaft you given half the chance (not in that sense, :cheesy:).

I also like James - very suave, and also, comes across as one of the "nice" ones - but again, I wouldn't necessarily trust him.

Has to be Peter Jones - he doesn't suffer fools. He will be cutting but usually they deserve it. I think if he does put money in to a business he would be very supportive. I think James Caan comes across as a nice guy but he is very tight with his offers.

I like them all really although I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of Duncan Bannatyne .

I think nowadays (as opposed to early DD) people are in it just for the publicity like the coin in the slot man. I think the publicity thing started big time with Ling of www.lingscars.com - fab site BTW if you all pop along and have a look, the free lunch is cool I expect she'll drop by and say Hi - and too many people come along and I (cynical? moi?) think 'just in it for publicity'
My fave is Duncan (perhaps only because he used to drive an ice cream van once like me). Agree Debroah is the cleverest and I do like Theo when he gets riled.
