My son is almost 10 months old and obviously sleeps with us. When we get up and he's still asleep or he has a daytime nap we put the pillows along the edge of the bed so he can't fall out. But now he's got mobile and can climb over them. I know you can get bed rails but this wont cover the whole length of the bed and am worried he may try and climb over it anyhow. So I wondered if anyone had any advice or what they have done? He did end up on the floor earlier and after a cuddle was fine but hasn't stopped him attempting it again.

When DS1 was that age our bed was a mattress on the floor so we never had that problem, sorry.
Having shared our bed till DS1 was 3, there was no way DS2 was getting in there, so I didn't have that problem second time around!!
Maybe a small mattress or blanket on the floor for when he falls out? Or moving him when you are not in bed, and daytime sleeps somewhere else?

Yes, maybe it's time he had his own place to sleep?

Otherwise - could you put him in between the 2 of you. I must admit the whole idea makes me wonder how any of you get any decent sleep. But whatever works for you - I am not trying to be critical, different things work for different people.

Most of the time he's daytime sleeping on my back. Think we're going to try a toddler bed down the side of our bed. He can climb off the sofa ok.

When DD became mobile, she had her naps on the floor, I made up a bed for her of blankets/quilts. Once she was able to climb off the bed by herself, she started having her naps there again, with some pillows to stop her rolling off the bed in her sleep, and some more on the floor in case she was too dopey when she woke up and fell off the bed-hasn't happened yet.
We did consider putting the mattress on the floor too, but the above worked for us. With guard rails, there's always the worry that once they're mobile, they will pull themselves up with that, then they end up being even higher, so more dangerous if they decided to climb over

Yeh have been advised that the mattress on the floor is the best solution - but not sure my other half would fancy that. He's sleeping more and more on my back at the moment but yes think a bed on the floor for him is an excellent idea - thanks.

E had her daytime naps downstairs so we didn't have this problem and in the mornings she just squealed and stayed put until someone went to get her.

If this hadn't been the case, I probably would have looked at a mattress on the floor for a bit?

i tried having my youngest in with me but even with a king size bed she just took up most of bed and me of dh ended up on floor or sofa. but if it works then fair enough but during day wouln't it be safer?

No he's fine. He's learnt to get off now and I'm amazingly intuitive as to when he wakes up. TBH in the day he does mostly sleep on my back it's just the odd occassion. Thanks anyhow.

It's amazing how they manage to wriggle towards you in their sleep - no matter how big the bed is!!
