Spoke to the tax office this morning and they have told me that I can claim a reduction on my gas and electric because I work at home. Spoke to my uncle who is an accountant and he says that I will have to be careful I dont get charged business rates for them. Does anyone know the rule for this?
Thanks

Hi Toni
As far as I am aware you can claim depending upon the proportion of your house used for business purposes.
However: you need to ensure that in any one room it is not dedicated entirely over to the business, as in this case you will be charged business rates.
This is what I recall from an article I read a year or so ago. Possibly worthwhile double checking with the business link or something if you are worried about the implications - they are generally quite helpful.
HTH :)
