Hi all, just wondering if anyone uses a Blackberry for emails when you're out. I'm considering getting one since I'm sometimes out during the working day at meetings or ferrying kids around - especially during the summer. Initially I was against getting one because I'd hate to have to deal with my emails when I'm out (and I get alot of work-related emails) but now I'm wondering if it could be an advantage when I'm waiting to hear back from a printer, for example, or a client or a sub contractor. Also, can you open attachments with it and forward messages? Would love to hear comments. Do you have one? DO you like it? Is it difficult to use? Thanks!
Hi,
My husband has one and uses it a lot when he's out and about. I think you can definitely forward messages - not sure about attachments, I'll check with him. It's really useful for me too because he lets me know when I have a new listing on my site when I'm not at my laptop.

I have an iphone and really like it but don't use it to send attachments (don't think you can) so it may not be of use to you. I'm going to do the free upgrade to the new iphone hopefully this weekend or next if I can find them in stock anywhere!!!!! I do like it I must admit and with the browsing speed on the new one supposed to be much better I think it's ideal for me. I've heard a lot of bad things about blackberries so I didn't get one although I think a lot of people do like them too.

Iphone - I know you can browse the internet but can you also access your site admin that way?

I loved my Blackberry but decided to upgrade to an ordinary phone this time for various reasons including not really wanting to be reading work e-mails when I'm out.
I am going to be getting an iphone shortly, but anyone comparing an iphone to a Blackberry should be aware that technically and in terms of business use a Blackberry is superior to an iphone.
The internet is very slow on an iphone even with the new 3G version. My brother has both versions and a Blackberry as his employer gave them to all senior management. Accessing my sites admin panel on his iphone was painful and slow.
There are some good iphone versus Blackberry comparision sites out there, the general consensus is the iphone is a better looking phone that you can also surf the web on and get your e-mail and of course if you have a Mac it syncs beautifully with your iCal etc
The Blackberry is a better business smart phone. The e-mail push is way quicker than the iphone. The iphone has had a lot of technical difficulties and even 2 weeks after the 3G version was launched there are literally tens of thousands of users that can't make any calls on it, or their e-mail isn't coming through etc and mobile me isn't working.

Yes I often do, the current model is a bit slow but the new one is supposed to be a lot better.

I know DH uses his phone for the internet when we're away etc if he has to. He used it when I was in hospital with Eithne - the bill was massive but what the heck - was for a good cause. LOL

I have one, just got it a month ago for wehn I went away on my hols, it was great, I could review e-mails, delete spam and know that I did not have to rush to put the computer on when I came back.
I got mine with BT, they had a good deal on £25 per month and 120 mins talk time etc.
Just asked my husband and he reckons it's great for email, forwarding attachments etc but not so good for looking at websites & site admin etc.
He does a lot of travelling and reckons he'd struggle without it now.

Well thanks for all the comments. It's good to know that Blackberry is good for email and attachments etc. as that is what I would primarily use it for and only browse websites if I absolutely had to when I'm away from the office. I'm still a little undecided as I know if I got one, I'd be wanting to make sure all is OK when I'm on hols and I know that would drive DH mad. But, I suppose it makes good business sense for keeping in touch and getting back to people even if it's just to say that I'm away and will reply in detail when back on such and such date. Does anyone know the answer to this: I currently have a vodafone mobile and would like to keep my number so would try and get a vodafone blackberry. Would it be possible to keep my same number?

Yes you can port numbers to any phone.

I would suggest research deals, and compe up with something better than Vodaphone, whether it's more minutes or a blackbnerry at a better price. Then ring Vodaphone and say you're moving, and ask for a PAC number - you need this to move to another provider. They will then give you a PAC number but put you through to the 'You're leaving Vodaphone but we're going to try to better the deal to keep you' department (which you can't normally access) try to sway you to stay with Vodaphone and you'll get a better deal, if you say 'I am going to move to TMobile because I can get x more minutes and y more texts for z less £' then they will try to match it and you can then say 'well if you can do me a blackberry for b ...'
I'm now looking at mobile broadband as an option for when I am away from the office. Does anyone have this? I was looking at the 3G option, it seemed cheaper and better than a Blackberry. Obviously you would need a laptop though.
