HI,
I have a Poodle who is a diabetic so i have to urine sample everyday 4 to 5 times a day the easiest way to do it, is go buy you a measuring spoon thingy like a tablesppon size and once the dog egts ready to peepee just slide it right under, thats if it is a female, Now if it is for a male, thats a different story, but getting my poodles urine this way is a breeze, i have to do it b/c she is on insulin 5 units a day!!! I hope this helps...

She had her first insulin injection this morning and needs another at 6pm.
she then has to spend all day at the vets tomorrow so they can monitor her levels.
gawd i am so nervous about doing the injections myself.

I know exactly how you feel about giving injections, I was the exact same way, and i hated needles, but believe me you will be doing it here soon with no problems at all, and also i have found that the really small needles makes it alot easier on Me and the Furbaby, I use the AccSure Insulin syringe they are 1/2 cc and the short and thin ones. they are no ways as long as somem i have seen. also they are the 29 Gauge!!!!

So i take they are keeping you're furbaby for a Glucose all day curve, is that what they will be doing. if so they normally get blood every 2 hours and see where it is ranging.

How many Units do they have you're furbaby on right now?

I am here if you have any questions at all.

Sorry to hear your dog is diabetic but at least it's something that can be treated. I'm sure it will be scary giving injections but once you start i bet you get good really quick. I hope it goes ok at the vets tomorrow and that now he's getting treatment he gets back to his usual self.""cutey""b

They have her on 4units twice a day.
yp they are keeping her to get her Glucose all day curve, so as you say blood every 2 hours.
I will update you to let you know how she (and I) get on.

She had a bit of a sulk when I left her this morning.
just waiting for the vet to call now so I can go and get her, dont think she will be ready for a few hours yet though.
thanks for all you advice, it really does help when you talk to someone who has been there.

Yay Jenn, See I knew you could do it. So is you're furbaby getting 2 shots a day at 6 units at each time, or is furbaby getting just 6 units total in a day? Did they happen to give you the readings they got from the Curve they did?

Jen
03-02-2006, 03:02 PM
she is on 6 units twice a day, I didn't think about asking to see the readings.
she is going back on Tuesday to have another curve done, i will ask to see the readings then.
I have noticed a change already in her, i.e drinking less and weeing less.
lets hope when she goes back on Teusday the readings are ok.

Thats great Jen that you can already see a change in her now. I hope the the appt on Tuesday goes good, and yeah ask for copies of her readings, I get one at my vet everytime Baby is there for a curve..

Jen

Bell has just come back from the vets after having another glugose curve done.
her levels are still really high...starting at 22.4 and going up to way over 30.
vet had gone home so I need to wait till they call tomorrow to see wha the next step is.
I was a little annoyed, her insulin was due at 6, but when i picked her up at 7.15 she had not been fed or had her insulin.

Jen

They have now upped her insulin to 8 units twice a day.
