Hi
I have just lauched this product myself. I am new to the whole business thing. My actual full time job is being a Police officer aswell as a mum to 20month old Corey.
Basically the story so far is that.... when i was on holiday in morrocco last july corey was 9mths old ish. I had a really hard time keeping the sun off him. I had the buggy hood up with a sun visor, the typical parasol which corey loved to swing from. I also had dads t-shirt wrapped around his legs. Its 95 degrees, and corey repeatedly pulled on the parasol, kicked the t shirt off. The only thing protecting him was the hood. As you can imagine with the natural movement of the sun, corey was at times fully exposed, especially from the waist down.
I then vowed when i get home that i was to find a solution to my stressful problem.
I only found the full sun cover- shade a babe, it looks like a rain cover. I knew corey would hate this because he hates his raincover, and kicks and pulls it off.
I then decided to solve the problem myself... and the rest is history, sorry to bore you
Speak to you soon

Welcome to MZ!
Always interested in new baby inventions :happy72: so here are some questions for you (not trying to put your product down, just inquisitive...and nosey LOL)...
If he hates things like rain covers and kicked off the t-shirt, doesn't he hate the uv buggy blanket too?
Why is it any different to fastening any other blanket over them? SPF 30 doesn't sound particularly high for fabric?
Don't they get too hot with a blanket touching their skin when it is sunny?
I'm sure you have all the answers and I'm just being a thicko (for which I'd still like to use the excuse of not having had my pre-pregnancies brain returned to me :cheesy:), so thought I'd ask!

Hi Melanie!
Welcome to MZ- there is a fabulous and informative wahm community here.
I'm Elizabeth, I run my business Chiggs, which also started when I invented a baby product, the Baby Feed Wheel, a card/gift to help parents keep track of baby's feed times.
As you'll know, developing and selling your own product is hard work but rewarding...I look forward to chatting!

Good luck with your product. It seems very similar to solar veil where the fabric is concerned but thats no longer in production.

I've never heard of that. The only thing I'd heard of is the shade-a-babe thing that Edmund despises, and silly parasols that blow over in the wind and are useless unless you are walking in a straight line. That is why I'm so interested in this - we are going to Spain soon and I don't want 2 sunburnt children!

Solarveil is a fabric that was made in the US i believe. It was naturally cream colour but could be dyed any colour. It as used to make beach wear for adults and children and then some companies who made slings decided to use it for summer slings.
It was UVA and UVB reflective, high SPF aswell. I dont know for sure what hapened but the company went bust even thought the fabric sold very well.
I had a friend who owned one of these solarveil ring slings and she used to drape it over the front of the buggy in the summer so it worked in a similar way as the UV Buggy Blanket does. It worked very well in that way so i can only assume the UV blanket will work just as well.

Hello.. Sounds a good idea, but so glad I am beyond the babies in buggies stage! I made DD walk rather than use a pushchair as soon as I could (about 10 months). I'm also curious like Chell.
As an add on product, I would have liked a mesh panel with a firm edge that could be squished into a car window by shutting it slightly so that the window was open and the hole was covered with UV mesh. Maybe with a plastic sleeve a couple of inches deep that slotted over the glass, then you shut the window a bit. Doesn't matter now I have aircon though!

Tell you what another good idea would be with a fabric like yours, a back window sun screen. A lot of places sell screens for the car doors but hardly anyone (if at all) does full width screens for the rear window of the car. Pointless covering the side windows if the baby still gets backed by the rear one.
Might be worth thinking about it. Id certainly buy one.

That is a good idea. I find that even though I have aircon it isn't anywhere near as effective in the back of the car, so my boys are still being cooked while I'm freezing.

HI Melanie,
Welcome to MZ. I'm Antonia, mum to d, 6 and j, 2. I think shading kids from the sun is a real problem so any new products are great. We had a fab sun shade with out Phil and Teds, but it did rely on the kid putting up with it LOL. Parasols never did much for d, so I'd given up on them by the time we had j.

We got something from a baby catalogue for Ruby's (now a year old) pushchair after struggling all last summer with the daft sunbrella that never went where i wanted. It fits over any type of buggy and she's okay when it's on and you're outside, but when you put it on she finds it a bit scary cos its so dark! Good luck with your product - I also agree - anything that stops getting sunburnt babies!
Hi Melanie,
Think we've "met" before on another site. Welcome to Mumzone.

Hi and thank you all so much for your comments and questions... i will try and remember to answer them all. If i have missed anything please shout at me. I too still have my pre prenancy lack of memory:) Here goes...
Corey(My son) was the key to my product idea when he was 9 months old , with reference to the raincover that he hates... He is very nosy i can only assume- because he cant talk that because of the blurry plastic material he would pull the side up and stick his head out..Watchout there a lampost head!!lol lol
Dads wet t shirt, was not comfortable and easily kicked... he would smile/laugh having heard me say in a silly voice..Corey, oh dear!!all messed up. He thrived on this and continued to kick it off for a reaction until we knotted it round the buggy poles.
Shade a babe he hated!!!, and i did not like, mainly due to the lack of fresh circulation /breeze of fresh air. Good concept, but not practical.
I could express how light the material is, If anybody would like a material sample please ask. The product folds very small. The material is as described by the person who mentioned solveil. The fabric sounds the same. The fabric is as thin as and similar to that used to make sun parasols, with a more cottony feel.
The fabric in the darker colours is actually 50+ SPF, howver because i do a cream blanket that is 30+ to avoid being sued, i decided to advertise all at 30+ just incase it was packaged incorrectly by mistake.
If you felt and saw the material you would be amazed at how light i is and how much protection it provides. I was sceptical and requested labatory tests, To which i now posess.
The blannket fasten to the buggy with velcro, corey now accepts this and does mess anymore. I also found use for it when abroad and in the garden when hes asleep i pull it up to his chin. So if the sun moves and im reading a mag etc he is covered. Of course you would still use spf 50 suncream, it is not a replacement, i would call it extra peace of mind.
I would prefer pess studs aswel as velcro.. however when it was safety tested they said that if the press studs are hand applied they wouldnt pass, if they were factory fitted the would. As they are hand made by lady i have to stick to velcro to comply. But i may in the future if i survive change to studs, Ps you cant have elastic near a child.
I think ive answered all the above..lol I m off to put the kettle on!!!lol
Thank you all again.. I love to be challenged, it helps me to be none bias about my product.

I dont think your allowed to obstruct your rear view, otherwise i would consider to custom make.
A good tip that i do, if your car allows is .. Leave your parcel shelf up, mine stays up!!!
