View Full Version : Got the jitters

I wonder if anyone has any words of reassurance for me please as I have a severe case of the jitters and am wondering if I've indeed made a costly mistake.
I have spent £250 on my website design and another, say, £90 for the set up and will be doing £20 a month for the running costs. Oh yes, and £50 for Nochex. I am just wondering if, with the current credit crisis, people will actually pay the prices needed for organic and fair trade clothes for their children when you can get them for £2 at Tescos!!
I have great faith in the products, but am just wondering if other people will see them the way I do. At the moment I'm finding it hard to get on listing products on the website and have ground to a halt.
:help2: is it normal to feel this way?!!

i think its normal to get the jitters. ive only been going 11months and i still get them now! you have great faith in your products, and that will see you through. you get out what you put in (or so they say) so keep going...but dont expect it to turn around in a day...it takes a while, sometimes years....hold in there! :kisshands:

Hi,
a lot of businesses are quiet at the moment. You only have to look at the high street - most of the big names have sales.
People are being a little cautious at the moment but you will find that people who prefer fairtrade products will still buy them.
Have confidence (easy to say - I know, I sell fairtrade gifts and it is a little quiet!) - and just keep working on your marketing, advertising, SEO etc so that you are ready when the rush comes!

I think we all get the jitters at some point or other - it's completely normal. I think you're bound to get them having spent so much money on the site. Everything is a risk.........
The positive things are that your site design is fantastic - your products are top quality, and fair trade is very popular.
Whether people will buy them in Tesco or online is a good question. All online retailers have to compete with the section of consumers who would rather buy in a real shop, and those who wouldn't even consider buying online. You need to think about why people would buy your product online - where they would come from and how you can make it a beneficial and pleasant shopping experience...
Finally - if you've come to a halt, take a couple of days off to clear your head a bit, then go back to it when you're feeling more positive.
Honestly, your products and site are good, so I'm sure if you can stick it out for the first few months you'll start to see a return :happy72:.
Also - I see you have other fair trade products as well as clothing, so you always have scope for expansion.
Sorry, waffled on a bit there :cheesy:

Absolutely agree with Dawn, just hang on in there and keep the faith in your products. It takes a while you have to put a lot of work into your marketing and SEO, read up and get as much advice and encouragement as you can, you are building a business and this takes time but you will be fine.
Your site looks great by the way and you have really lovely products
good luck :kisshands:

Thanks for all your support but I've cancelled my account etc - it simply takes up too much time and my family life is suffering as a result.
I won't be on here any more but can I wish you all the best of luck with your businesses - it's been nice knowing you.

Sorry to hear that you decided to call it a day. I'm sure if you went through the old threads you would find posts from all of us when we've had the jitters.
It took me well over a year to get to a position where I felt that I could make a go of the business.

Aw what a shame, but you obviously know whats best for you and your family at this time, hopefully if and when you "pick it up" again you will know how much is involved and be ready for it, it does take over your life for a while (well for life lol) and for what seems like a very little return but they say it takes 2-3 years to buildd a business, which i think is a fairly good rule of thumb. As Chris said resting wahm's are allowed to stay! why dont you keep with us pick up hints/tips and advice and note them down for when the time is right?
Wish you lots of luck with whatever you do :)

Sorry to hear that but it sounds as if it's the right decision for you, it is a very consuming thing to take on and although it does have some great rewards it has it's price. Good luck, maybe we'll see you back here one day. I think once you have the business bug you always do.
All the best

Thanks very much for all your kind words and Dawn, no, it was not something you said lol!
I think I knew deep down that it wasn't right for me but just ignored the nagging voices. Once I thought no, enough, the sense of relief was enormous. Maybe one day I'll go back to it but for now I'll just enjoy being Mum.
I'll hang around here for a bit then if that's OK!

If it doesn't feel right than your heart will never be in it 100%, and believe me it has to be as it becomes very time consuming.
You may change your mind though at a later date and you can always go back to it.
