Well that was an utter waste of a nice afternoon. I've just got back from a craft fair this afternoon, travelled 30 miles there and 30 back to a school near Guildford and out of the 10 craft stalls 6 of us were selling jewellery, none of us took any money except the one I was next to who was a Mum at the school and was selling mass produced cheap tat from China for £4 a necklace and £3 for a bracelet and if someone moaned at the price she did it cheaper. I took £3 after I'd paid the tenner for my stall and one of the girls who did gorgeous fused dicroich jewellery only sold a glass fish for £1 don't know what the others did but there was a lot of mumbling going on. Wont be doing it again next year thats for sure. Oh and I spent 2 of the £3 on a burger which was lovely so it's not all bad I suppose.

Hope everyone else doing one today had more luck.

It is horrible when that happens, what a waste of your time.

You never know, people may remember you. Good things can often come from seemingly wasted events :o)

Sounds like the event organisers messed that up, usually they restrict how many of each type of stall they have to stop that happening

Then again, it might have just been that they didn't know your face and where buying off the face they knew that they'd seen at the school gate?

Best of luck with your next one Kate

That is such a shame Kate. It is annoying when there are a few jewellery stalls there. Did you enquire as to how many there would be before you booked it?

I did one at christmas time and enquired how many there would be, they told me I would be the only one, so I agreed to the stall. When we got there, there were 2 other stalls selling only jewellery and I was next door to one of them. The only woman who did excellent was a mum who was at the school. I only took my mass produced jewellery as I didn't think that the handcrafted items would sell and I wish that I had taken the handcrafted. The other stalls were selling mass produced too. I sold a fair bit but not as much as the other lady. They contacted me again a couple of days ago asking if I would like to have a stall at their summer fair but I said NO. Told them to let me know when the christmas fair is on and I will take the handcrafted items along with order forms for the engraved items.

Better luck with your next one though Kate.

Thanks everyone. I think it was a case of no one was really interested in buying much really as there was an It's a Knockout for the kids with teams and all the parents were watching that and a few were browsing the stalls and most of them making a bee line for the woman whose kids went there. Oh well, at least I had good news when I got home as Helen at little Snuggler sold one of my pieces in her lovely new shop Rose Cottage so that was nice.
