Painting

My fil just gave me a load of acrylic paints and some water colours plus some lovely brushes. Only problem is I haven't got a clue where to start with painting. Just wondered if anyone had any tips or if you could recommend a good website or book to give me some ideas. I'm wondering if there is any way I could use them in conjunction with the card making/scrapbooking.
