I am trying to rank higher for this (http://www.educationtakeaway.com/shop/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=26) Which phrase would you use, High Frequency Words or Reception words. Or is it something else.
The term is High Frequency words so I would stick with that. Reception is just the type of high frequency words you are selling ITMS

We also use the term key words. You could define them by which key stage they are used for.

As you know I bought these for my DS. Had I not seen them on your site then I wouldn't have known about them. I would use the terms above but things like learn, read, reception, starting school, phonics, resources etc might be words I'd use when looking for things to support his learning.
I bought them as an alternative to flashcards, perhaps flashcards would be a good word to include too.

I'm finding that people who already have children gone through school know the term "High Frequency Words" others who's children have not started yet have never heard of them.

I know DS always talks about red and green words, this is with Read, Write Inc.. He hates flashcards and goes into melt down when they are produced but will happily play with your magnetics. A big thumbs up from me :happy72:

'popular words' would be a term I'd use, think my DD started school before it was trendy to call them 'high frequency'!

I was going to say Tyler is starting school in Sept and I wouldn't have known about them or what they were called.
I think mums like me with their first child would be really interested in something like that but wouldn't have a clue about them.
Would it be worth coming up with some sort of information page with products which would help or be good for children starting school. Like a starting school article with suggestions of products. Then you could work on your keywords to take them to that article which may bring in sales that way.

I don't really know what I would look for. Probably something like reception learn words or key words reception year. Or first year school learn words. I don't think I would use an exact phrase, I think I'd only have looked for them after the teacher mentioned that my children had to learn them and were having difficulties and I think in that instance those are the most likely phrases I'd use.

Great idea, I'll get my brain in action and see what I can do, although I can't add pages to my site. Will have a chat with the developers.
Thanks

Thanks for giving me your view on this. I don't think this kind of information is relayed back to parents. My DD was coming to the end of her Reception year when my frined (a teacher) asked if she knew all the "High Frequency Words". She gave me a copy and I went through them with DD, she knew some of them but not all of them. Then I panicked thinking that every other child in the class would know them. Most of the other children didn't know them either. If this info had been given to us we could have gone through them with her as homework.

Do you have a blog? It might even rank quicker than if it was on your site if it is on Blogger, then you could have lots of links back to the product on your site.

Yes I do have a blog, I have done several blog items on starting school, Jolly Phonics, and High Frequency Words. Don't post on blogger a huge amount but should make more time to post a more often.

The infants my kids have all gone to are really good. They explain on every interview how many of the keywords they know, if they're having problems with anything and what I can do to help and also what the next goals are. It's sad to hear that other schools don't do that as it would really help everyone.

I often think that these days people expect us know what is going on in schools. That is just not the case, I was an older mum and was taught in the 60/70. Even the addition is set out different to the way I was taught. It's not carry one pay back, the way was taught and times tables is 3,6,9,12 rather than 1x 3, 2x3 and so on.
