i have friend who calls me babe but I never use it, and don't like it if a man calls me it, usually coz they mean it in a demeaning way.

:cheesy:Its not one of the terms of endearment I use {I tend to call people darling, love or sweetheart} but then again I am choosy which adults I use them with as well.

My particular pet hate is "mate". I have a friend who calls everyone "mate" whether she is speaking to males or females.

 Duly noted! :cheesy: I use it often, but in my defence, I live in an area where heaps of people do. In fact, it's rubbed of on my OH, he even called me mate the other day! :hysterica

I don't use babe and there are only a couple of people I'm comfortable with calling me it.

It is not a name a use alot, but I can't say it bothers me....

I often can't remember peoples names, and use terms such as hun, hunni, sweetie, sweetheart, floss (for the little girls), mate (for the little boys) - and so on and so forth....

I do also use them as terms of endearment, so if they are accompanied by a hug (virtual or otherwise), or a hair ruffle or some such thing - please don't think I've forgotton your name :D

Must admit don't like it when fellas call me that - sounds like the woman is a trophy as in my babe. Never had a woman call me it either but will admit I do call lots of people "love" still think that's better than being called "flower" or "pet"

up here in North Wales you hear the term cariad used quite a bit among the Welsh speakers (from up Conwy valley or Bangor and beyond)

madan calls lots of people hun and it has rubbed off on to me and she also hugs everyone when she meets them as well

I might be guilty of saying this to someone so apologise now for any offence caused. BTW it doesnt bother me if I get called it by another female but don't like a man saying it. Fickle is my middle name!!!!

lol where I grew up it was 'darling' in a cockney way.. and even now that makes me smile when i go back and hear it. :)

But 'babe' is my nickname for my hubby, and his for me. :) No one else uses it that we know.

The word I HATE is 'dear' makes me feel like an old granny!

I absolutely hate it - reminds me of that pig film. I call children sweetheart or love. When I used to go out to work, there was this woman who called everyone ****. I didn't like that one bit. She always said I was posh though.
