I love freecycle but sometimes you get a real pain in the bum on there. I offered my rotary washing line yesterday, nothing wrong with it, its just the flipping kids tangle it all up all the time and I have to sort it all out everytime I want to use it.
Anyway a lovely girl came and picked it up, and I was making beads at the time and she came to the shed and watched and I made her a bead and shes about to start an art degree and is going to come back and play, and I had a lovely email from her today saying how I'd poked her mojo into action and she painting again today, which is lovely.
I also had 2 other emails asking for the thing, both of which I replied to thanking for the interest etc etc like you do. One of them was almost a begging letter telling me they had just moved into a rented house with only a small garden and had 2 children under the age of 4 (blimey imagine that) so they have loads of washing and thank you for offering it when could I drop it off to them.
So having had my polite, thank you for enquiring about the thing but I was very sorry but it had already been collected and wishing them luck finding a new one, and I remembered how hard it was having 2 children under the age of 2 myself, I got another email from her telling me how awful that was and that her need was very great, didn't I understand, she only has a small garden so can't get enough on the line there so it would be ideal, she has loads of washing and what is she supposed to do now.
So suggestions please especially from all you mums out there with the benefit of actually having a couple of years between your children, it must get harder the longer the gap then. What shall I reply to her, I feel I ought to as she is so desperate and other than going out and buying her another one from argos I'm at a loss as to what to do.

what you do is this..
1) report her to your moderator. Thats one of our "jobs"
2) you write her an email saying..
"im sorry you feel that way, but actually freecycle often works on a first come first serve basis, you were not first.
Sending me emails to try to guilt me into giving you something isnt going to work, the item has been collected.
It is down to me who i give my items to. I suggest you keep looking or place a wanted ad on freecycle.
I am sorry you have 2 children under 4 and a small garden, maybe you should contact your landlord and ask them to supply you with one."

suzi, do you not have the FOP? Ours clearly states that it doesn't always have to be the first come although they acknowledeg that in some circumstances that may be the case.
I would ignore the email and mention/report to to the mods, not fiar if you being made to feel guilty

You shouldn't feel guilty Kate, personally I think the woman who has contacted you obviously has no shame and is using Freecycle in the wrong way!
What does she want you to do? It's as if she is trying to make you feel guilty and that you might take pity on her and her her one!
When I put our fishtank on freecycle, I got about 8 replies one including a begging one saying that they needed this fishtank very much, as he/she had to give up work to look after his/her parents as both of them were dying of cancer and the fishtank would just make their lives more bearable...............I hope that they were going to fill it up with fish!!

if begging works, I can go one better, by August I'll have 3 4 and under!, go and get it back and send it to me as I can only get 2 loads at a time out at the mo.
I'd ignore her and if she doesn't stop report to the mods.

If I get more than one reply, I choose who I want to offer it to first, then email the others saying that it is taken, subject to collection and that if they fail to collect I will then re-offer it to my next choice.
I dont think any more than that is necessary.
In the situation you describe I dont think I would bother contacting her again but I would certainly make note of their id and details for future reference.

I agree ignore it
even if you had done that there would be no gurantee that her name would have been picked and she does have a bit of a nerve

Just go round and fetch all her washing you mean lady and while you are there offer to have the kids 5 days a week so she can have a rest. Make sure you iron the clothes before you take them back and stop giving your belongings away without having more consideration.
If you still have the details of the person you gave the whirlygig to you should go straight round and reclaim it unless they can provide a valid reason for keeping it!
Some people have no idea just how hard it is to have 2 small children under 4, in rented accommodation and no wear to hang out washing .............. I don't know what this world is coming to!!!!!!!!!!!!

In our local Freecycle group it very clearly states that 'begging' is not to be done.Report hrt to a Mod.Otherwise write back and say you gave it to someone with triplets under the age of 2 who only has a postage stamp garden.xx

It is a recycling site. You can put up items that you no longer need, but that are too good still to go to the tip, then people reply and you offer it to someone and they come and collect it. The only condition is that it must be free.
You can also put up wanted posts if you are looking for something in particular, and if someone offers something you like, you can reply to them asking for it.
It is a fantastic idea. I have got rid of loads of stuff on there, and equally, picked up some great bargins!!!!

Special Brew is worse. Nah, I prefer my Whiskeys (not Bourbon) and Brandys (not spanish). I slightly over-indulged in this American Brandy (yes, American) called E&J Brandy. It is lovely:happy72:

amaretto, with coke tastes EXACTLY like dr pepper, but with a bit of a punch (basically if you drinkmine, youget a hefty PUNCH round the smacker!)

Personally, there are not many drinks that I do like. Jįgermeister is quite nice though (I think that is how it is spelt). About £20 a bottle. Best served neat and cold, but no ice, so keep it in the fridge

Anyway, tried some sort of punch years ago at a works halloween party. Not too bad, bit too sharp for me. Plus it was warmed. Think it was mulled wine actually, it had some sort of spice to it, and had slices of various citrus fruits in it
