I have had the same thing. HV is coming back next month to review DS2 speech but if she does refer him then the waiting list is about 18 months long.
It just seems so stupid that something as important as speech has such long waiting lists.
As you say once they start school it is a bit late and they will be behind before they even start.

I Just Cant Help Thinking That The Hv Cant Be Bothered With It Mine Came And Did C 2 Year Check Without Even Bring The Form For Speech Refreal With Her It Was Only That I Went On A Parents Course Run By Our Local Childrens Center That I Got C Even On The Waiting List
I Know Its Down To Money But Surely Our Kids Speech Is Worth Paying For.

There is a national shortage of Speech and Language theraists.
It is awful when there is a long wait like this. Are you getting any support from anywhere?x

actually im sorry to say but you are really really lucky that his speech issues have been picked up so early.. most are not even picked up till after they start school. By which point you at least will have been seen/be being seen/be at the top of the list....

seems I was lucky with madam
madam speech problems where picked up at her 3 yr assessment and she spent from then until the end of yr 6 in speech therapy.
she had regular blocks of it at the therapy unit until she was in yr 5 when the speech therapist used to come to her as it was disrupting her schooling
even cam had to have spech therapy though I refused to let him have it at 3 as there was no point in doing it with a boy who could not sit still for more then a few secs at a time so he was 4 when he started and in nursery
I was lucky to have DS picked up on his problems too - he is abou two years behind his actual age - but now after a lot of hard work of getting a statement for him at his school, they are too busy to to send a speech therapist!

My dd (she's 2) hasn't been seen by our health visitor since she was 5 months old. I take her for her vaccinations at my gp surgery but my hv is based in another surgery and i don't even know what shes called.

the only reason i have got my son seen and put on the waiting list is because i did a speech course run by the local childrens center and the lady who ran the course did his refeal for me.
It just makes life so hard because he can tell me what he wants i dont understand so he thorws a paddy.
role on speech.
