View Full Version : Slightly annoyed

Tonight, me and a couple of girlfriends are going out for a meal to celebrate my birthday. One of my friends doesn't drink at all, and she has just texted me asking who is driving because her OH is taking his nan out tonight.
Now maybe its me, but when we arranged this 2 weeks ago, she said she'd drive because she is the only one that doesn't and now, in celebration of my birthday, I'm going to have to drive and not touch a drop.
I'm thoroughly p!ssed off to be perfectly honest and whilst I'm trying to not let it upset me, it is and the frame of mind I'm in at the moment, I feel like saying eff it, lets cancel. I'm not going to, but it brasses me off when this has been arranged for so long and now I can't have a single drop (as I refuse to have anything more than an OJ if driving - one glass is too much).

I would be annoyed as well, can you get a taxi?

We're going into Exeter which would cost about £70 return, which although when split between 3 of us isn't quite so much, theres the meal on top aswell.
I'm trying not to get upset here, but....

Do you think she's doing it on purpose?

I'm not sure - I'm wondering and it was the first thing that DH said aswell. He said, did I think she was doing it cos of people expecting her to drive because she is teetotal, but I said, last year on her birthday, I drove the Espace and all of her friends and her were in my car - so I drove again then.

Awww, hunny that is so unfair! You are TOO nice! It seems a bit thoughtless of your friend, knowing that it is your birthday.

I was going to suggest this, that way everyone gets a drink.
Have a fab night whatever you do!

i would be p***ed off as well.
maybe you should text her and say you really fancied a drink as its for your birthday and so you are not going to beotter going out and see what she does, she may feel bad and decide to drive.
can she not drive your car if her dh has hers

Problem we have is that my SIL is coming, and she lives in Exeter, and unlike my friend, I don't like to change plans at the last min, so don't want to make it more local - I've been looking forward to my carvery all week lol (Andrea - you're more than welcome to come along if you fancy it - Toby at 6.30pm :happy72:)
I don't like anyone driving my car, not even DH. Call me a prude, buts its only 6 months old and its my "daughter" :cheesy: - I've got a real hang up about people driving my car lol.
I'm ok with it - I had two drinks on Weds on my proper b/day when DH took me out and ended up half cut on that and feeling sick during the night (I'm such a lightweight) so its probably a good thing lol.
As long as she realises that there is no chance that I'm driving on her b/day next month. Nooooo way!
thats such a shame, I was going to suggest you change the venue too, but as thats not a possibility all i can say is enjoy your meal, and just think about the hangover you are saving.
Maybe you could go to a pub after the meal, one that is a closer taxi journey.

My lovely SIL drove! My brother rang up, insisted she was driving. she came and picked us up at 6pm then took us back into exeter, took us for meal, took us to wetherspoons and then drove us all home again. Considering its a 20 mile trip each way for her, I was sooooo grateful. Had a good night and know I'm going to suffer for it in the morning though, so currently downing lots of water :cheesy:
Andrea/Sarah - I've got all the kidlings on hols this week, but would be more than happy to pop down/meet up with you before Sarah goes home (if you wanted  )
Forgot to add, the friend that didn't drive in the end - shes the only smoker out of us all of us, and for some reason we spent an hour and half, outside, freezing our bits off, whilst she was smoking and going on about how warm she was - whilst we were shivering! In the end, I got up, said I needed the loo and was freezing so we all went in, finally, although she didn't look too impressed. Tough, thats what I say!

Well, I'm not suffering this morning, not from the drink anyway.
I hope no-one thinks I have anything against smokers mind - I used to be a smoker myself - it was just her expecting us all to sit outside, no coats/jackets, freezing our bits off, supposed to be happy itms.

I think she has a blooming cheek, firstly by changing plans about driving and getting you to sort everything out and then expecting you all to stand outside while she puffs away! You a bluddy good friend to do that!
Top stars to your sister-in-law, I hope you other friend appreciated the trouble your sister-in-law had gone to. Glad you had a fab night!
Glad you had a good night.....and no I wouldn't sit outside for one smoker

If someone wants to smoke then thats up to them but to expect other people to stand outside, freezing their ass off, breathing in their smoke is just plain selfish and rude. If they're that keen for your company they'll go out for a quick smoke and come back in.
Rant over!
Glad you had a good night and your SIL drove for you.20061010
