Marc has brought up worries about a new system BT and other ISP's are bringing in for targetted advertising.

The business implications of this are horrendous. The technology scans at a low level, so private areas of your site, including password protected ones, ARE NOT SAFE from this.
BUSINESS OWNERS this means a customer scans you site, that data is recorded, then next time that customer goes to a site displaying ads served up by this system they will see adverts for your competitors, all because that customer was profiled by this system.
**** The Future ****
The company involved, phorm, also have the technology to insert adverts into the stream of data between your web site and the person viewing it, in other words they can (they say they wont) put adverts based on the content of your website on your website. This would mean competitors adverts apearing on your own site.
