I recently got an item which the seller had advertised as sending via 1st class post. When I got it, it was sent 2nd class post. I've emailed them pointing it out as it may have been an oversight. Dh says I should just leave it, but if they listed the item as being sent 1st class then i think it should go 1st class.
WWYD??
I've not left feedback yet. What are the ebay rules on this kind of thing?
Thanks

I agree with you GB, if they advertise and charge for 1st class then they should send it 1st class. Don't know what the rules are though.

It depends on how much the difference on the cost of postage is TBH
if the difference is substantial then I would probably leave no feedback, or a neutral; if the diference isn't high then I would leave a positive with something like great item, but sent 2nd class even though paid first class rate.
I think as far as the rules go it would be 'against the rules' for the seller to do that, but I doubt ebay would really want to get too involved if the item was sent as as described.

I agree the seller should have sent the item as described. But, as you say, it could easily have been an oversight - when you have a lot of listings to do the easiest way is to "relist" a previous listing, and amend the details. Postage details are grouped seperately to say e.g.item description or item title. So it could very easily have been an oversight - or even an oversight at the post office end (I'm afraid i'm guilty of that one!).
With regard to feedback this is not really the sort of issue you would even leave a neutral for. Once feedback has been left it cannot be changed, and it will stay with your user ID (under feedback left for others), later on you may wish you had not done it.
If you are happy with the goods and they arrived in good time, you should be leaving positive feedback. The way to deal with this, i would say, is to politely point out to the seller his/her "oversight" by e-mail.
Also remember it is postage AND packaging, including materials, the time it takes plus cost for journey to P.O. It is possible your seller found he had underestimated these costs and decided to send 2nd class.
Hope this helps!

I would just leave it, assuming you got the item safe and well without having to wait ages for it as it was second class. If they were charging you a bomb to post it thats a different thing altogether. to be honest I never even look at whether it's first or second I'm more interested in actually getting the article I've paid for.

it did take longer to get to me, I emailed the seller who apologised but didn't offer to give a refund and then Dh left feedback without asking me.
IMO if you say you are going to send something 1st class than you should otherwise whats the point of the differences etc. But no harm done, the difference was more than a £1.
I guess you think I'm harsh but I know there are over buyers out there who would have been a lot harsher.
I still love ebay
