Hi.
The title says it all really. I'm looking for a sling which is great for hip carrying and also back carrying.
I like the look of the Jetpak Baby Carrier and also the Connecta baby but I;m not sure if these are suitable for hip carrying.. Any advise is very welcome thanks

I don't think either of those will do a hip carry. The Ergo does back, front or hip and is easy to use and comfy (although it is fairly low on the back of the baby so if you have a baby who likes to lean back this might not be ideal). Have you ever used a wrap? You can do hip and back carry with them once you get the hang of the ties.
I'd highly recommend popping onto www.slingmeet.co.uk to see if there's a meet anywhere near you as getting hands on advice really helps.
To back up justenuff. A good wrap sling (eg hoppediz, Storchenweige) is the most flexible, but I needed help getting the hang of the ties. Slingmeet is great for this.

Thanks. I'll have to check out the wrap slings then. They always look quite tricky to get the hang of, but i guess it's all down to practice!!!
I'll be honest, I'm not sure I'd really have got the hang of it without a helpful and encouraging sling-using friend... They do come with pretty good instructions on the whole, and the demos on http://www.thebabywearer.com/ are really good.

we use a kari me sling which is a wrap sling and has really good instructions. We haven't got far enough to be ready for hip or back carrying yet but there are options for it.
Kari-me is a fantastic sling, but you can only do a back carry with assistance to put the baby in - it's not really safe to 'tie' a baby on with a stretch sling - fine as long as you only want to carry when someone else confident enough to post the baby in is around to help.
I got a mei tai in the end, which is very easy for back carries, but as far as I know isn't much good for a hip carry. I have back problems, so have only ever gone for positions where the weight is evenly distributed.

I wouldn't recommend to put your baby on the back in a stretchy wrap, unless youa re a really experienced babywearer.
IME, although you can do a hip carry with a woven wrap (I use a Didymos), it's not as easy as carrying your LO in a ring sling.
Whereas I cannot use my (Zolowear) ring sling for more than 30 minutes at a time, it is fantastic for curious babies who love riding on your hip!

Woven wraps are great for hip/back carries. There's lots of demo's on youtube as well. Ring Slings are also good for hip/back carries, but it depends on bubs and the RS-mainly the shoulder and quality of the fabric. You'll find some fit you better than others. Unfortunately it's often the case you get what you paid for. Sakura Blooms and Pslings get lots of good reviews, but they are quite pricey
