Just got in from seeing our new family member, not sure if the cats are going to be impressed but we are getting a puppy.
He's an 11 week old boxer,he's brownish with white socks and will be called Buster. He's in a home with kids and cats, we saw the mum and auntie and they have great temperaments.
For as long as I have known dh he has wanted a boxer and Ive always said when we get a bigger house he could have one. He's taken it literally and now Buster is coming to live with us on Saturday.
Any tips for us?

Aww lovely cant wait to see a pic. Well we have had Charlie since he was 8 weeks old (and he is a year old in December!) and I must admit if your puppy is not house trained when you get it its quite hard to start with! Hopefully yours will already be.
A nice big bed is a must and we just get a cheap one for Charlie from the market as they are nice and thick and only cost £10! I would also recommend getting a puppy starter kit of bones from a pet shop near you if they do one as they are great for them to chew on and it also helps their teeth to come through.
Will you puppy have had any of its jabs? We keep meaning to sort out some pet insurance for Charlie but havent dont it yet! Do you know what food he is on at the moment?

I think we have to get the jabs done ourselves but he's been wormed, frontlines etc. He's already started with his house training but is not totally there yet.
http://www.epupz.co.uk/clas/viewdetails.asp?view=29447 he's the darker one not the best picture as you can't really see his face.

Aww he's gorgeous. In that case make sure that you have plenty of newspaper for toilet training him!
I would register with the vets and arrange his jabs as soon as possible then as normally by now they have had some and you cant take them out for walks until they have had all of them. I would recommend a harness lead for when you day as Charlie hated the one that went around his neck.
Not sure what food he is on but we have used various and Butchers seems to be the best one.

He is sooo cute!
He's so cute, I want one  as for tips a very basic one, praise for doing the right thing i.e going outside to poo and don't make too much of a fuss when you have to scold them , short and sharp and make sure its straight after the event , not a few hours later when you find it he won't understand what hes being told off for
Be strict with keeping him to heel on the lead while hes a puppy then you won't have the problem of being pulled over when hes bigger , use rewards to teach him the basics .. ie sit. lie down and start teaching them sooner rather than later they seem to be able to pick things up better when they are puppys more so if you make it into a game with them

Make sure he has plenty of toys. When Defor was a pup, she would chew absolutely anything. Treat him as you would a kid, thats what our vet suggested, lots of praise for good behaviour, ignore him when he`s naughty. They also suggested a puppy crate, for when they`re naughty, just a cage that you can use like a naughty step. We didn`t use one though, it seems a bit mean. Must of been good advice as Defors about 18 months now and she`s really well trained. Good luck

No tips from me, as we have never owned a dog - but I have heard that the "clickers" are good for training ...
Madmum - dh worked with someone who called his dog deefa - do you have the same reason? :hysterica

Thanks,he's grown slightly since then. Will try and get a new photo on of him.
He's becoming fairly house trained and we only have accidents at night now.
He will be going out for his first walk soon so hopefully that may make him more tired and he won't be such a menace at times.
