My DH just called me into the living room to listen to a report.
In Watton ( norfolk??) a woman was breastfeeding on a bench in the High Street. a few minutes later as she was walking away, a policeman stopped her and informed her that they had had a complaint, and said that while she had not committed a crime, would she refrain from breastfeeding in public in future and go to a restaurant or similar!!!:angry-smi

Surely the police could have just told the person who complained that no creime had been comitted and let it go at that?

If I rang to compain that some one had parked outside my house, or any of the other small annoyances that I come accross in my daily life, they would just tell me that as there was no crime, there was nothing they could do and leave it at that.

Oh for God sake, have people got nothing better do with their time but complain to the police about women breast-feeding?! How pathetic! There are a lot worse things going on around us than breast-feeding. If I was that woman I would tell the policeman to go and tell the complainer to get a life!

Ooooh, it makes me mad stuff like this!

i agree people make such a big issue over something so natural everyone promotes breastfeeding but as soon as a woman does is in a public place not demed "suitable" its then something that should be done secretly, we are living in the 21st century or are supposed to be shame on those people who complain :angry-smi

its just pathetic, Its the sort of thing that put me off breastfeeding Eth and makes me doubt whether Id be able to do it in the future.

Instead of getting support, mothers are made to feel uncomfortable. Its such a shame.
