I know he has brought this on himself because of his drinking but its horrible to see someone look so ill. TBH I dont think he is going to recover this time and I have a horrible feeling we will be hearing some bad news about him possibly today or tomorrow!

I think you are right.I didnt see the pictures in the paper over the weekend, but heard on the radio he'd asked someone to take them as a warning to others.

He is in a bad way... not a pretty sight but it is one I have sene already. TBH I pray that he goes sooner than later to save him from the pain he is obviously in.

Footballing legend George Best is unlikely to survive another 24 hours, his doctor has said.

He could not recover from the internal bleeding that developed during the night, Professor Roger Williams said.

"I have to tell you his hours are numbered," he said at Cromwell Hospital, west London, at 1250 GMT.

 Very sad and not a nice way to go

I agree ... according to the lunchtime news, his family are at his bedside and he is unconcious.

I know from recent experience that spending the last hours at a hospital bed are not exactly pleasant .........

This may sound harsh but I don't have a lot of sympathy for George Best. He was a talented, brilliant footballer and he blew it in exchange for a good time and boozing it up.

He was given a second chance with a new liver and he blew that too. Someone else could have got that liver, someone who would have taken more care of it. Think of the person who died, who gave that liver to him. They died so that George Best could live and he basically abused that right. It makes me mad! :angry-smi

I do think it pretty awful the way the press are gathered at the hospital just waiting for his last dying breath. I find that quite sick actually, but I know it's news that everyone wants to hear.

I do hope that his lingering, agonising and well-broadcast death will be a message to all alcholics out there, that drinking to excess does not bring you happiness.

I do feel sorry for his family as they will also have the media hounds to deal with and sadly for George Best his dying wishes will not be kept as he wants to be remembered for being a talented footballer and not the drunkard that he was..........with today's press I really can't see that happening.

At the end of the day though he had an illness. A neighbour of mine was an alcoholic and he was only 31/32 when he died leaving a young family behind. Its a horrible addiction much like a drug user and I wish there was more that could be done for people with illnesses like this.

Lots can be done for this "illness" but it is up to that person to do something about it.

George Best was given loads of opportunites as are many alcoholics, drug addicts - they chose that road to go down and they always find someone else or something else to blame when it all goes wrong.

There are loads of help-lines both privately and through the NHS to help these people but they need to want the help and stick with it in the first place.

Sorry, I know it may sound harsh but I am sick of these kind of people who put misery on their family, friends then make out that they are the victims.

There is no doubt he was a truly gifted, brilliant player. His skills were second to none.............not that I remember of course as I was just a tiddler when he was playing but you only have to read and see footage that he was an all time great.

I truly believe that what he had was an illness and unless you have an addiction you cant know how hard it is to stop. Apparently his mum was also an alcoholic and there is evidence to suggest that it can be in the genes.
