View Full Version : How to dress for back carrying?

I've tried my LO on my back with the ergo to see if I can do it and seems ok and comfortable but I've no idea how to do it out and about. When he's in the front it's dead easy as I put it on under my coat/cardie and I can add or subtract layers depending on how hot I/we get but when he's on my back I don't want to be wearing too much but I can't add a coat on top...
What do you do?
(had a bit of a comedy moment trying to get him off my back too  I'm so glad I wasn't out in public)

usually wear a fleece top and nothing else, though haven't carried much as she loves walking.
I love my ergo too.
can you do side carry?

I haven't tried a side carry yet as I need to watch the DVD again to work it out and I haven't had time - I suspect I'll be doing it a lot though as I like to be able to see what he's doing and I'm not sure I'm going to like the back carry for anything other than full on walking (today I was looking in every car/shop window as I went past to see what he was doing).

What you need is a Suse's Kinder Coat! They have a special opening at the back for the babies head to pop through and a panel at the front that you can zip on too if you do a front carry. The back opening pops together if you aren't using it. It is made of a waterproof layer and a fleece inside, so you can wear either one or the other or both at once. It really is a fab coat.
I bought mine from Bits for Bairns. I don't know if I am allowed to post a link as I already got something edited out but if you google it you will find her.
You can also get a 'Sling View Mirror' which you clip on and then can check over your shoulder any time to check positioning or just to have some eye contact. I think Nicki sells those too.
