Press Release Timing?

i've got ideas and contacts (thanks Antonia) for my press releases, but what I'm unsure about is timing. How far ahead do publications work? Should I be sending releases now for Father's day for example?

PS Is now the time to hang my head in shame because I actually used to WORK in PR and really ought to know this. :hysterica

I work on about 3 months for mags ?

yes for Fathers day - 3 months ahead for most monthly glossy mags.
