need a good (pref free) stat counter

any recomendations I've been having probs with the one I usually use and it wont sit on the index page properly since I updated the site.
I've removed it now but would like one that gives me referring urls ect so I can see which advertising is working.

Cheers

I've tried that one before but I can't get it to give the referring url maybe I'm choosing the wrong code options at the begining

Hmm, you should just need to put the script into your page, normally its at the bottom, although if you use html pages you need to make sure its at the bottom of all of them

Sorry, all mine are integrated into the e-commerce software I use or provided by my webhost. I have heard of one called AW Stats but that may be a server-sided package

Which page do you have it on, let me look! You probably just have something in the html of the page that shouldnt be there.

I had stat counter ages ago but it wouldn't show me the referring url so I change to the new one (onestat) which was great and was working fine right upto me re-publishing the site after I changed it round and now it's caput!!
Tried wiping the code out that I had in there and re-pasteing it with the new generated code but still refuses to work.

Are you putting it in the right place? I put mine at the very bottom just before the </body> tag

baybees

think it's in the right place just doesn't like me I think!!

Oh no! Maybe it's to do with one of the statcounter settings and not where you paste the code in.. I've been wrestling with a 'what's going on with this code' sites today too

I have it too and I hate it, well I love it and I hate it and I'm grateful for it but I hate it....:D

It's so helpful but so frustrating at the same time seeing how people arrived, where they went or more confusingly in some cases didn't and trying to work out what they were after in order to conver them into a customer.

Baiscially I haven't got a clue which is where the hate part comes in lol

Glad you got yours fixed, nothing worse than fighting a piece of code you just can't seem to get right.

Oh don't get me started with statcounter. It brings out the mathematician in me and I have been known to waste hours on stats  I have spreadsheet upon spreadsheet of records - what a geek I am :woot:
