When someone is browsing your shop and adding things to your basket, do you prefer that stock remains "in stock" until they check out, which means customers might find something they thought they'd bought is suddenly out of stock when they try to pay for it. (because someone else has bought it)
OR
Do you prefer items to be removed from stock, and put back into stock only if they abandon their basket. Which means while a customer has something in their basket no-one else can buy it. (assuming the one in their basket is the only one you have left)

B - as long as it was easy for me to tell what was in peoples baskets so I could hassle people if they leave my last one in their basket for weeks without checking out.
I think I do A currently and I think Boots do too seeing as they let me order an out of stock carseat and then cancelled my order!

I think the second option would be better if there was a time limit? Maybe of 24 hours!!! What an idea world that would be!

B would be wonderful but most likely a nightmare to make it work properly and would be confused by spiders with overflowing baskets.

Have you had a problem with spiders doing that?

B - but only till they shut their browser.
Some of the Happy Heinys I sell are one-offs and its not fair for someone to 'hang on' to it for weeks.

I voted B as well. That is how it would be in a real shop, first come first served!
