Weve just had the worst night ever :-(
DS went to bed as usual and at 12 woke up in a right state, the worse cough I have ever heard, so distressed and couldnt breathe.
I rung NHS direct up and got passed straight to a nurse who asked some questions and thn said an emergency ambulance will be with you straight away. Gosh what a horrible feeling that was.
The ambulance arrived and took him straight to hospital. His breathing calmed down alot in hospital with oxygen and they let him come home after lots of tests. They said he has croup.
It was so frightening and something I dont ever want to experience again! Weve all had about 2 hours sleep and that is so unlike DS as he normally sleeps for 12 hours without fail but he just cant sleep with it. His breathing still isnt fantastic and we have to keep putting him in steamed room to help him. Its horrible, but hopefully the worst was over last night :-(
Just wanted to write this down as I am so exhausted and shakey about what happened.

It is very scarey Helen. You've just described what happened to me and ds at the beginning of December. We had blue lights come for him too, he also had Croup. Big hugs xx

Once you have heard that "bark" there is no mistaking it in the future. My friend's ds was poorly yesterday and I said to her to be careful as his cough sounded like Croup to me. She fobbed me off, took him to the Dr's and low and behold the Dr said he had Croup!

Hugs. What a horrible experience, all my kids have had it and bronchilitis too which has had them hospitalised, it is a real panic at the time.
Hope he's feeling brighter again soon.

You poor things - it's really frightening when anything affects their breathing - especially at night.
We've had croup before (but not as bad as yours) and oliver had bronchiolitis when he was a few months old - that wasn't very pleasant.
I hope he's over the worst and gets better soon.

I cannot recommend highly enough this (http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1021878&classificationid=1046385) product for coughs. When I was 5 I had whopping cough and the teacher recommended a Wrights Vapouriser for my mum to get for me. At that time they weren't electric but a candle and it was the only thing that gave me any peace from coughing during the night. As soon as my kids were born, I purchased one of these for when they have bad coughs and it certainly is a god send.
Hope your child is feeling better soon. :kisshands:

Ah hugs. A couple of mine have had croup and it's awful, there is so little you can do to help. Hope he is soon on the mend.

How's he doing Helen? Hope he's a lot better.

Both my children had this, it's frightening isn't it. I found a steamy room or sit outside in the cold helped (wrapped up warm of course). I did go to A&E with my ds, but he was OK by the time we got there.
Hope Joshua feels better now.

what a scary time - loads of sympathy.
\ds has bronchiolitis when he was 4 m, we spent several days in hospital with him. It was really strange as my friend whos little boy was slightly younger was in at the same time.

How's he doing Helen? Hope he's a lot better.

Thanks Tash. He is much better today, coping better than me I think. After 3 nights of hardly any sleep, DP and I are exhausted!
He is getting much better now though and we seem to have it under control now. It was just so scary and such a shock when the ambulance turned up with flashing lights and took him straight to hospital :-( Id only rung to ask advice from NHS direct!
Thank you

Thank you everyone- sorry for the lanket reply.
He is much better now, I think he has coped better thn DP and I as we are exhausted having had hardly any sleep!
Thanks for all the suggestions, they have really helped.
Hopefully things are under control now, it was just a shock to have an ambulance with flashing lights come and then for them to take him straight to hospital. I only rung NS direct for advice and wasnt expecting that to happen!
I havent managed to get any work done, so Im trying to get through a massive pile :cheesy:
Thanks again
