Today my other half and i went to pick up some moses baskets for sale by a couple from another forum we are on, I didnt really know them but they seemed really nice on the phone and were chatting to me about my twins due in may, they said they were very excited about meeting us as they had triplets and would sit and chat to us about multples when we got there etc...They said the moses baskets were £40 the pair wheich i thought was great, anyway, we drove all the way there which took nearly 2 hours, by the time we got there i was dying for a pee being pregnant, and my back was killing me from sitting in the car, Anyway my oh and i stroll up to the door, knock and the guy answers, looks a bit suprised to see my oh who is a 6ft 3" big black guy, The wife wasnt even there as she said she would be and the guy was kind of rude to us, basically couldnt wait to get us out the house, even after we told him it took us 2 hours to get to him, he said the babies were upstairs asleep and when we gave him the £40 he then said no they are £40 each!! not only that he didnt even offer us a drink or even the toilet, and he could see i was pregnant!! didnt even ask about the pregnancy even though on the phone they said we would chat ect and the whole attitude to me changed as soon as they saw my OH, What is the matter with people these days!! It really upset me, we brought the moses baskets anyway as we had driven all that way and were back on the road within 5 mins again for another 2 hour drive. Cant believe how rude and uncaring some people can be!! :cursin:

Oh thats awful, what is the problem with some people, you could have got a better deal than that nearer to home, did you pay the other £40?

I would have said shove it and headed to the nearest coffee shop for a cuppa and a pee

Thats terrible hun, but in the same situation I'd have been the same, although afterwards it makes you want to go back and say what you should have said!! That was really rude of him considering you'd driven all that way!!

I think it really depends on how well you know them, although maybe I am in the minority here, I don't like inviting people into my home that I don't know. Obviously if it was a pregnant person and then wanted to use the toilet then I would let them, but I wouldn't invite people in for a coffee that were buying something from me. Sorry, it's not that I'm rude but I wouldn't expect the same if I was buying off people either.

The only people I invite into my home are people that I have known for a while online and chatted to regularly.

Does seem strange that the woman wasn't there. Have you emailed since?

i wouldnt have paid the extra, i would have said what his mrs had talked about, and if he wasnt in agreement i would have left it at that and got in the car and left.
Are you thinking he was a bit off as your oh is a black guy? maybe he was scared of him...or maybe he had something to hide, he might have tought your oh was an off duty copper or something. Sorry you had a crap time anyway hun, idiot!

I would not have paid the extra, have you contacted her to let her know how you feel?

do you think he was intimdated because of your oh? I'm only little and can sometimes feel a bit wary of tall people.

Im the same, i dont invite people in unless i know who they are. Did you say that you needed a wee, coz in all honesty i wouldnt have thought to ask you either!

And to be fair I don't think many men would think to ask either in a case like that.

I really dont think it has anything to do with the fact your DH is black hun (well i would like to think it isnt) but maybe he suddenly thought i dont know these people from adam and was maybe a bit intimidated ?

I had spoken to them both over the last two weeks on the phone and they were really friendly like they had known us for ages, even saying if we came earlier we could join them on a walk...lol, but the face and attitude changed as soon as he took a look at my OH, Its nothing unusual, we see it a lot in little villages, unfortunatly this is still happening after all these years lol. x

Thats so sad.

Not being funny though, but I would have told em to shove the moses basket for £40 each. You can buy them brand new for cheaper than that (Kiddicare have some really nice ones for £25ish).

Nt as bad with the stands then, but they should have made it so much clearer it was each not for both x
